Hip-hop artist 216 Whisky finds inspiration in connection

- BY NYASHA GOROGODO

RISING hip-hop artist Isamel Whisky, known as 216 Whisky, said his inspiration for starting music came from a need to speak out and connect with others.

Whisky explained that he’s been singing since primary school, initially creating music for himself. Last year, however, he felt compelled to use his art to communicate with people.

Whisky collaborated with Mr Attention on “Gore”, which was written during a low point in his life. Reflecting on his goals set at the beginning of 2023, he realised some had been achieved, while others hadn’t. He found his way through those challenges, and his latest song, “Zodzo”, which features Selmor Mtukudzi and Wedande expresses his gratitude. The title translates to “God be with me,” signifying his dependence on a higher power.

“Yes, the message is that we are not alone,” Whisky said. “There is God, and through him, we are able.”

Whisky doesn’t have specific favourites among musicians. He is an artist who listens to a variety of musicians and learns from them all.

Regarding negative feedback, the hip-hop artist chooses to simply ignore it and focus on his craft.

Currently, Whisky is working on singles with plans to release an EP later this year.

“My music journey has been enlightening. I have been able to meet so many people with different personalities,” he said.
