- BY SINDISO DUBE

MINIYOTHABO Baloyi-Chiwenga, wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, stole the fashion spotlight at the country's 44th independence celebrations in Murambinda.

Her unique take on the national dress incorporated a transparent laced bodice reflecting the national colours and the Zimbabwean bird. This stylish twist coordinated with her husband's attire. The traditional Zimbabwean attire typically consists of a wraparound cloth, earrings, and necklaces. Baloyi-Chiwenga's design added a touch of modern flair with the lace.

This attire is reserved for special occasions like Independence Day and Heroe’s Day.

Photos of the Chiwenga and his wife circulated widely on social media, with many praising her fashion sense.

An army colonel, Baloyi-Chiwenga recently married the vice president after his divorce. Beyond her military service, she is a successful businesswoman who runs a chain of high-end boutiques in Harare called “Style By Minnie".

Baloyi-Chiwenga is known for her intellectual abilities. She is reportedly multilingual, fluent in six languages including Mandarin, French, and Zulu.

She leverages this skillset as a government linguist, translating Chinese and lecturing in Chinese at both the Zimbabwe Staff College and the Harare Institute of Technology.

Baloyi-Chiwenga was recently named as the new chairperson of Miss Universe Zimbabwe.

The prestigious pageant made a return after a long hiatus from the international stage, with Brooke Bruk Jackson serving as their representative last year.
