Briefs ‘King Munhumutap­a’ warns govt officials

selF-proclAIMed King Munhumutap­a, born timothy chiminya has warned government officials, particular­ly from the Midlands against harassing traditiona­l chiefs that he recently installed.

In March, chiminya presided over the installati­on of Julius chimbi chigegwe and servious piki as chiefs chirumanzu and Hama respective­ly.

“I note with great concern that there are some senior government officials from the province, who are harassing the chiefs we installed,” chiminya told sunday southern eye.

“this is what we have always said that substantiv­e chiefs have not been coronated in many parts of the country to replace acting chiefs because of corrupt tendencies by some government officials and some members of the chiefs' council who get kickbacks to maintain such cultural anomalies.

“As King Munhumutap­a l have the powers to install chiefs and anyone, who acts contrary to such is fighting against our traditiona­l norms and values and so to those who are interferin­g be warned.”

chiminya has been on a whirlwind tour across the country replacing acting chiefs.

He said his actions were guided by a 2022 High court order, which declared him King Munhumutap­a after the then local Government minister had contested his kingship.

He also claimed that he was guided by “ancestors” who sent him as a “messiah” to free chieftains­hips from corruption. —stePHen cHadenGa

A pluMtree man is serving jail time following his conviction for breaking into a tuckshop in neighbouri­ng Botswana to steal groceries.

trust Moyo was dragged to the plumtree magistrate­s courts where he appeared before magistrate Joshua Nembaware.

Nembaware sentenced Moyo to an effective 18 months for both unlawful entry and illegal crossing to Botswana.

prosecutor selestine Madziwa said on April 22 Moyo illegally crossed into Botswana in Matsiloje village where he broke into Aleck Mmolawa's tuckshop and stole groceries.

In an unrelated case, a 44-year old plumtree man is in hot soup for allegedly robbing pedestrian of his cash.

Mkhokhelen­i sibanda (44) was remanded in custody to May 16 when he appeared before plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware.

prosecutor selestine Madziwa alleged that on April 27 around 4pm, the suspect met the complaint along a footpath at Nkwizi village, plumtree.

they were sentenced to two years in jail respective­ly, but one year was conditiona­lly suspended.

prosecutor selestine Madziwa said on April 28 the duo went to shaba village in tsholotsho hunting for the complainan­t.

they found her at her sister's place and dragged her out of the yard and asked her why she was telling people that the pair were thieves.
