IN THE PRESS

-

UNDER normal circumstances, one blind person will know better than to be led by another blind person.

But in these extraordinary circumstances of Zimbabwean opposition politics where failure is celebrated, the blind lead the blind.

The fact that former Vice- President Joice Mujuru’s “manifesto” occupied advertising space in the private Press should tell her sympathisers something — real policies do not come in the form of Western-sponsored ad space, period!

We wait to see if the steam from her cooking pot will not scald her or die down way before 2018, just like what happened to Tsvangirai’s flat Juice and Tendai Biti’s forlorn Hope.

Speaking of this former Finance Minister’s political dream, it really is failing to come to fruition.

While a headline like “Former Finance Minister hits hard times” might sound too cliché, that is exactly what is happening right now.

After holding the country’s purse during that unworkable inclusive Government, Biti is having to contend with presiding over empty chairs and less than 300 delegates at what is supposed to be party national congress.

Somebody save this poor soul before it is extinguished in the bleak darkness of the tunnel in which it is aimlessly wandering.

There is genuine concern over all these high-sounding nothings flying around.

Is drafting an “economic policy” the new trend in town so that opposition politicians can milk money from a battle weary West?

From the look of things, the more derogative the document is to our own national values, the likelier it is to beassured of a financial stream.

Extraordinary days indeed.
