Champion wants to sign off in style
THE undisputed king of local bodybuilding Champion Chienderamwano is about to call it a day and wants to use next month’s Mr Zimbabwe competition to sign off. Chienderamwano last weekend won the Mr Iron Man competition to complete a clean sweep of titles as he is also the reigning Mr Zimbabwe and Musclemania champion.
At 29, the Botswana-based athlete stands at the apex of Zimbabwean bodybuilding and with very little competition coming his way, he believes it’s time he makes one fi nal statement before venturing into business.
Chienderamwano wants to say adieu in style on October 17 at 7 Arts Theater in Harare.
“I want to win the Mr Zimbabwe title one more time and retire, it’s about time I move on,” he said. “I need to invest more time into my transport business which I will be spreading to Zimbabwe this year after three successful years here in Botswana.
“I also intend to go to school and study VVIP Protection so that I will be able to secure contracts to offer security to high profi le members of society.
“Presently I am the one who travels with the owner and founder of Choppies Supermarkets Mr Farouk Ismail and I feel this is one area I can really make a name for myself. I have the body but that is not enough, one needs to study the area so I will be going to school.”
Chienderamwano’s revelations come at a time when his triumph at last weekend’s Mr Iron Man competition at the Odyssey in Kadoma has veteran Isaac “Sugar” Chimuchenga seething with anger.
Chimuchenga, who came third behind Chienderamwano and Blessing Samaringa, believes the judges were blinded by his long-time rival’s girth.
“Champion did not deserve to win. It appears the judges used size more that the quality of muscle and this disadvantages smaller athletes. In my book that young man Blessing deserved to win the title,” charged Chimuchenga.
Chi ende r amwa no Chimuchenga a sore loser.
“Sugar is just bitter. A loser will always find negative comments about
l a b el s a winner but I am not the one who beat Sugar. Uncle Blessing beat Sugar so he was supposed to focus on how to beat Blessing and not mourn over why Champion won,” he said.
“I focus on my career how best to perfect my physique and not negative comments because criticism comes with the territory. Th is is the attitude that has seen me winning several competitions in my short career.
“This sport has transformed my life and I thank God. I managed to build my mother a house in Kwekwe before building my own in Harare. As I get ready to walk off the stage my dream is to stage my won competition –the Champion Classic – so that I give Zimbabwean bodybuilders a platform to express themselves.”
