NUST outplay Lupane

HEATH Streak Academy has been promoting cricket from grass- root level since last year and hosting schools cricket tournaments as well as second league matches.

Last week the top universities in Matebeleland, National University of Science and Technology and Lupane state University clashed in a T20 match which was graced by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation officials and the board of directors of Heath Streak Academy.

The Principal Director of Sports and Recreation Ministry Mr Benson Dube hailed the good works done by Heath Streak Academy in developing the sport of cricket from grass- root level in Bulawayo at the match.

“It’s high time for all the games in Zimbabwe to be realized even the ones which are said to be trivial such as chess and darts. Let’s do away from the habit of sponsoring soccer only but going as far as swimming. For the past two weeks everyone was talking about soccer only as if the cricket national team is not playing.

“I would love to spend the whole day watching darts because it’s one of the good games we have around. If we all support these games it widens our Olympic participation as well” said Mr Dube urging people to treat all sports the same.

This year’s ZITISU (Zimbabwe Tertiary Institutions Sports Union) games silver medalist in cricket NUST outplayed Lupane State University by 7 wickets in a much anticipated match.

The talented side of NUST opted to bowl first and embarrassed Lupane State University by restricting them to only 96 runs. The experience of the finest all-rounders Mzingaye Mdlongwa and Brian Tsongora led NUST to an early victory with exceptional stats of 4 wickets off 13 runs in 4 overs and 51 runs off 24 balls respectively.

“Good all- round performance today, we are indeed playing good cricket, continuing from the form we had last season. I hope the boys will maintain the momentum and a big thanks to the Heath Streak Academy board and the Principal Director of Sports Mr Dube for the support they have shown for cricket” said the NUST skipper Carrington Bowora who is looking forward to taking the inaugural Zimbabwe Premier League by storm with Bulawayo Athletic Club.
