THE Zimbabwe Republic Police is effectively fostering peace and security in the country, a development that led to a 27 percent decrease in criminal incidences in the country last year, a senior police officer has said.

Speaking at a belated end of year party for Police Protection Unit yesterday, Deputy Commissioner General Josephine Shambare hailed the police force for keeping the country safe.

Deputy Comm-General Shambare said despite the challenges faced by the police, the ZRP did exceptionally well to keep the country safe from criminal elements.

“Our mandate as the police is to maintain law and order, safeguard lives and property, reduce incidences and fear of crime by enhancing public safety,’ she said.

Deputy Comm-General Shambare said she is proud to be associated with the force that is dedicated and loyal in serving the country.

“I am particularly proud that PPU managed to remarkably discharge their mandate by pulling together as a dedicated and loyal family. As a province, PPU has the mammoth task of ensuring the security of our country’s VVIPs who include His Excellency, the First Family, Vice Presidents, Cabinet Ministers, members of the diplomatic community and senior officials of the judiciary, among others,” she said.

The Deputy Comm-General said senior commanders of the ZRP are happy with how the force managed to reduce crime related incidences despite any challenges faced.

“Certainly, a 27 percent reduc- tion in crime related incidences during the period under review (2016) is a remarkable achievement. May you keep up the good work and continue to be vigilant, keeping your ears and nose on the ground ready to sniff out and deal with any malcontents that may seek to threaten the security of our country,” she said.

She urged members of the police force to continue discharging their duties gallantly in line with the organization’s policing theme for this year which says, “ZRP serving and safeguarding peace and security in grace, stability and nationhood.”

Also in attendance at the event was national police spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba, several other senior cops and Mount Pleasant legislator Cde Jason Pasadi.
