PSL claims CAF license ignorance

- Langton Nyakwenda Ishemunyoro Chingwere

DYNAMOS president Kenny Mubaiwa says the offloading of players such as Rodrick Mutuma, Stephen Alimenda and Sydney Linyama is a sign that the club’s executive does not interfere with technical issues.

DeMbare coach Lloyd Mutasa recently wielded the axe on the trio and roped in several youngsters as part of his efforts to rebuild the Glamour Boys.

“The decision to offload those players was done by the coach and we support him,” said Mubaiwa. “Personally, I have been accused of meddling in technical issues to the extent that some have accused my executive of forcing players on coaches or telling them which ones to offload.

“That is why this time we are making it clear to the coach that he is free to do what he wants with the team including choosing another assistant of his choice - as long as it brings us the desired results. When I say results I do not mean draws.”

Former Triangle coach Biggie Zuze has been linked with the Dynamos assistant coach’s job.

Despite leading DeMbare to a disappointing fifth position last season – the club’s worst finish in a decade – Mutasa was given a fresh mandate at the team’s AGM last month.

But there was a catch: he was required to win the first five matches, inclusive of preseason friendly games.

That condition reportedly did not go down well with Mutasa who felt the target was unfair and in an ensuing meeting, the executive softened its stance. WARRIORS fans yesterday added their voice to the on going national team coach debate. Below are some reactions to the question: Who should be the next Warriors coach and why?

– Norman Mapeza. The lad is good at what he knows best.

Martin Changachirere Robert Zhakata

– Honestly we need a foreign coach who will work with locals from Under-13 right to the seniors. He must be given 5 years to develop our soccer.

Ignatius Nyoni

– Sunday Chidzambwa head coach, Chunga and Rahman Gumbo as assistants with Chogugudza coming in as the goalkeeper’s coach.

– A foreign coach will do though I don’t have any in mind. Then Lodza (Chitembwe) and Mapeza first and second.... But panoti cash apo hapana anoda kuuya kuzoita community service.

Mubaiwa has had a love-hate relationship with Mutasa and his assistant Murape Murape, but the administrator promised the duo his “full support” in an interview last week.

“There is no way I can just hate Mutasa or his assistant Murape because when the team wins it also makes my job easier. Why shouldn’t I support the coaches? If the team is not winning it also affects my job. What we want are results period,” he said.

Mutasa took over from failed Portuguese gaffer Paolo Jorge Silva in May 2016 when Dynamos was hovering above the relegation zone. He quickly stabilised the ship and finished a decent fifth place.

This is the second time in six seasons that Mutasa is starting a season as Dynamos’ head coach.

The last time he was sacked midway through the 2011 season before his then a suit.

As hours turn into days and days into weeks, the chances of Delta renewing their partnership with PSL are getting slimmer and slimmer.

Check what you have done Captain Fiasco. You made a mess at the PSL and have never bothered to clean it up.

Instead there you are fighting continental battles like a regional peace force when your top flight league is a mess!

Khama Billiat paid the price for Chiyangwa’s battle with Issa Hayatou when he failed to land that Caf award and we should expect Caf to pull the finger at us a couple more times.

As Chiyangwa fights Hayatou and showers Giovanni Vincenzo Infantino with pleasantries that are sure to make assistant Kallisto Pasuwa took over and won his first of four league titles.

And Mubaiwa says they will not hesitate to act if results don’t go their way.

“But remember football is like a factory, if production targets are not met it becomes a problem. In that same vein, we are saying we will be monitoring the progress along the way.”

Mutasa has embarked on a rebuilding exercise after losing key players.

2016 Soccer Star of the Year finalist Godknows Murwira and utility player Dominic Mukandi are now at Ngezi Platinum Stars, while rising attacking linkman Brett Amidu was snatched by FC Platinum.

Star goalkeeper Tatenda Mkuruva and Masimba Mambare are yet to sign new contracts while the deal to keep influential left back Ocean Mushure is shrouded in uncertainty. the Fifa president’s bald head shinier, Omega Sibanda must be seeing an opportunity.

Just watch how the national team gaffer’s issue will be handled and check the names that will be thrown around.

Meanwhile, Sibanda was lucky not to be anywhere near the Bosso AGM last weekend as everyone accused the Zifa vice-president of causing Dube suspension.

An irate Ellington Nsingo suggested there is a plot to destroy Bosso.

“I hope Highlanders members you hear me. It’s very sad that the board chairman, his board and the executive agree that Highlanders are better off without a chairman. Our chairman gets fired for PSL business and you the elders agree and say even at Highlanders let him go. How then do we trust THE Premier Soccer League claims it is yet to get correspondence on the much talked about minimum qualification standards for top flight coaches.

Zifa have been going to town about how only Caf A license holders will be allowed to take charge of PSL clubs this forthcoming season.

But PSL chief executive Kenny Ndebele claims they are yet to officially hear from the local soccer governing body.

“I don’t remember receiving any such communication from Zifa directing us to enforce the minimum qualification requirement and consequently I have not communicated anything of that sought to the clubs.

“As far as I know it’s a matter that has been going on in the media but as soon as Zifa sends a letter we will notify the clubs on the new requirement,” he said

However, a letter seen by this paper from Zifa’s acting chief executive, Joseph Mamutse, and dated September 27, 2016 to his PSL counterpart Ndebele, speaks of minimum qualifications requirements.

“The Zimbabwe Football Association hereby notifies you in person and your esteemed office about coach Chelsea3-1Arsenal Crystal0-4Sunderland Everton6-3Bournemouth HullCity2-0Liverpool Southampton1-3WestHam Watford2-1Burnley WestBrom1-0StokeCity TottenhamvMiddlesbrough(PlayedLate) ManchesterCityvSwanseaCity3:30PM LeicesterCityvManchesterUnited6PM remains the same don’t expect miracles ,Zifa must put its house in order first .

Pasuwa can be our new coach in a new organised and professional system.

- Institutional change is needed at ZIFA first and foremost before we even identify a potential coach for the Warriors. As long as the administrative side of our game is mismanaged and run in a shambolic manner, we will not attract a good reputable coach and will end up settling for nomadic chancers like one Tom Saintfiet or the totally clueless like Valinhos!

- Norman Mapeza is the right person. The last time he was coach he developed a good team but was cut short by the then Zifa board which settled for a ‘GNU technical team’. A stupid decision which negatively affected our campaign! you?

“We know these Harare people, we are used to them. If you board members don’t know them Highlanders will suffer. We want our chairman as the season starts, he was elected here by us. He was not voted for by the Chiyangwas and Omega No!

“He was elected here by us we want him here as we start the season with him Peter Dube. That he was banned by the PSL let them ban each other there not here at Highlanders,” said Umdala Nsingo amid wild applause.

“Please find listed below the recommended qualifications in their respective categories.

Premier League Head coach and assistant coach: CAF A plus level four. Division One head coach and assistant coach: CAF B plus level four ...” wrote Mamutse.

Yesterday, Zifa spokesman Xolisani Gwesela warned they would come down hard on clubs whose coaches do not meet the minimum qualification requirements.

“That position was communicated to the league,” said Gwesela. “CAF even organised a club licensing workshop (where this was discussed) which was predominantly attended by PSL clubs. I am therefore extremely flabbergasted by such insinuations.

“Let me categorically state that Zifa will this year implement club licensing to the fullest and any unqualified coaches will never be allowed to sit on the bench,” said Gwesela.

Newly-appointed Harare City coach Mkhupali Masuku, whose highest coaching certificate is a CAF B licence, will be the biggest casualty if Zifa implements the regulations. NETBALL Super League newcomers ZRP Tomlinson Queens received a major boost from Chapeta Fresh Water Supplies and Borehole Drilling services ahead of their maiden dance in the top flight league.

Tomlinson Queens were presented with their trophy for winning their division at an occasion that also served as the unveiling of a sponsorship package at Tomlinson Primary School in Harare yesterday.

The ZRP team will have a 35-seater bus and a supply of mineral water, juices and all expenses and requirements for the season catered for as part of a deal that is renewable after five years.

Chapeta Fresh Water Supplies and Borehole Drilling services owner, Thomas Chapeta, urged the Super League debutants to go for glory.

“I never thought it would come this far,” he said. “I am humbled to see you guys progress … there is success and hope in women.“The desire to sponsor is part of our social responsibility and these women are winners. By end of the season we will be celebrating the Super League title I have no doubt,” said Chapeta.

Zimbabwe Netball Association president Letitia Chipandu was grateful for the corporate world’s growing interest in the sport.“You have made a huge impact in our sport Mr Chapeta. I also want to thank the ZRP for supporting netball. This will go a long way in making our netball better and at the moment I think netball is better than soccer in this country, sorry soccer lovers, but we are ranked 17th in the world, I don’t know about the soccer team,” she said to a mix of applause and laughter.

Guest of honour, Officer Commanding the Police Protection Unit, Senior Assistant Commissioner Lee Muchemwa, praised the netball team for their efforts that have elevated them to the Super League.

Also present at the event was Mt Pleasant National Assembly representative Jason Pasadi, who added to the sponsorship package with a US$3 000 donation for the team.
