Prayers answered?

- Munyaradzi Chamalimba

VICE President Phelekezela Mphoko last year met church leaders in Harare and urged them to pray for rains.

He encouraged Christians to ask God for sufficient rains to ensure food security.

lndeed the rains have soaked all parts of the country and farmers are expecting a better harvest following years of droughts. A local church leader said Christians should once again join hands and thank God for the abundant rains.

“Remember that last year, Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko called for a national prayer and as churches we gathered and prayed for the rains as per his request. Truly, last season was not that good but God has answered our prayers. In this light, God was graceful and gave our leaders an ability to craft an agricultural plan in the name of Command Agriculture. In my view this created employment for those who managed to qualify for the scheme and the country will also have a bumper harvest.

“For the nation to develop, l want to urge sons and daughters of light to be vigilant in all they do and grab any opportunity that comes their way.” Nguva Yokupedzisira Apostolic sect’s Joseph Shumba encouraged believers to support Government initiatives.

“Truly God is faithful and it is evident that he has remembered this nation and gave us plenty of rains. What happened this rain season is an indication of better times ahead. l encourage Christians to speak positively about their nation, for the Bible says out of the abundance of the heart, a man speaketh,” he said.

Shumba encouraged the youths to work hard for their prosperity.

“From the days of Adam, it was clear that man shall till the land and eat the fruit of his sweat and that has never changed. God has blessed Zimbabwe with the land, so let’s make use of the land and the rains to produce enough food and surplus for sale.”
