Littlerock Int School shines ... Eisteddfod Allie Arts Competitions
LITTLEROCK INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, (L.I.S) is a faith based Christian School and we uphold our Christian standards and as such we bring praise and honour to God by performing purely Christian Songs.
As L.I.S. we were afforded an opportunity to take part in this year’s Eisteddfod Vocal and Instrumental Competitions hosted by the National Institute of Allied Arts this March. Four students namely Kundai Dahwa, Tsitsi Munemo, Munashe Maponga and I (Anesu Lioga) kick started the festival with the category Grade One Recorder Solo. Kundai Dahwa performed ‘’The Spirit’’ and scooped a First Grade certificate, Tsitsi Munemo performed ‘’Amazing Grace’’ and was awarded a Second Plus, Munashe Maponga performed ‘’Lay Down The Burdens of Your Heart’’ and was awarded a Third Plus and I performed ‘’Even So Come Lord’’ and I was awarded a First Grade.
The Ensembles and Soloists were the second to perform the following week. The Junior Primary Ensemble presented ‘’He Wants Me To Do Whatever He Wants’’ and were given a First Plus. The Senior Primary Ensemble presented ‘’Stand Up’’ and got a Second Grade. The Secondary School performances followed after and the Junior Secondary Ensemble performed ‘’Joy Comes in the Morning’’ and they were awarded a First plus then lastly the Senior Secondary Ensemble sang ‘’He’d Still Been God’’.
They did exceedingly well bringing home another Honours. Our next performances were for the Junior Primary Choir and Senior Primary School Choir performing ‘’Never Walk Alone’’ and ‘’Swell The Sound’’ and they got Second Grade and First Plus respectively. At the end of the week, Kimberley Takawira and I participated in the Western Vocal Sacred Music Solo. Kimberley Takawira performed ‘’Blessed Assurance’’ and she was awarded a Second Plus and I sang ‘’ Till The Storm Passes By’’ and I was awarded a First Grade.
To sum it all up, on Wednesday the 23rd of March the Junior Secondary Choir and the Senior Secondary travelled to Harare International School for the Western Choral category. The Junior Secondary students brought the curtains down by singing ‘’Joy At Last’’ and the Senior Secondary students with ‘’Cry Out And Shout’’. They were awarded a Second Plus and a First Plus respectively and this marked the end of our Eisteddfod Allied Arts Competitions.
This was a thrilling adventure for every student at Littlerock and we would like to thank our Music teachers for giving us the exposure to such competitions and the School Administration for permitting us to discover, nurture, exhibit and share our various talents.
Why Vocal and Instrumental Eisteddfod?
At LIS we are ‘’Brave, Thinkers and Doers!’’ We encourage our learners to participate in extra-curricular activities that help them develop specific life skills that are critical in the development of a ‘’total’’ person. In our Music lessons we cover the following areas from ECD to Lower 6:◆ Vocals ◆ Musical Instruments ; Recorder,
Piano and Guitar ◆ Reading and writing music ◆ Composition of music Our entire vocal and instrument trainings are based on Christian Ethos. Our participation at Eisteddfod is purely to help our students’ confidence and for them to recognize their God given talents. On a daily basis we provide structured training and learning on vocals and instruments. We do many outreach community events where we use different talents from various students in our school. We believe that through our God-given talents we can help give hope to the hopeless, provide inspiration to those lacking confidence and encourage them to discover their own talents. ◆ Students, YOU CAN SEND YOUR ARTICLES THROUGH E-MAIL, FACEBOOK, WHATSAPP or TEXT Just app Charles Mushinga on 0772936678 or send your articles, pictures, poetry, art . . . to Charles Mushinga at charles.mushinga@zimpapers.co.zw or mushingacharles@gmail.com or follow Charles Mushinga on Facebook or @charlesmushinga on Twitter.
