Kamambo fights on

- Sports Reporter

FELTON KAMAMBO is living up to his word.

The man, who a fortnight ago vowed to use all his might to fight for his “democratic right” to contest during Zifa’s December 1 board elections, has challenged the soccer governing body to respond to his appeal.

Kamambo, who is seeking to challenge Phillip Chiyangwa for the Zifa presidency, on Friday gave the Electoral Committee 48 hours to “adjudicate or to respond to my appeal.”

“I noted an appeal on the 8th of November 2018 against the decision of the Zifa Electoral Committee in accordance with the Zifa statutes and more in particular the Zifa Electoral Code Section 12(2),” wrote Kamambo in a letter that was also copied to Fifa and Caf.

“Again in accordance with the Zifa Electoral Code, Section 12(3), the appeal must have been disposed of within four days from the date of receipt.

“The four-day period has since elapsed and I have not received any communication from the Appeals Committee, neither was I called for the appeal hearing.

“It is trite that the noting of an appeal has the effect of suspending the decision appealed against. Accordingly, the decision of the Electoral Committee remains suspended. The failure by the Appeals Committee to determine my appeal within the requisite four-day period means that my appeal succeeds rendering me eligible to contest in the Zifa election for the position of Zifa president.”

Kamambo maintains that the decision to bar him from contesting the elections lacks merit and should be reversed.

“In the spirit of finality to this matter, I hereby demand that you do within 48 hours of receipt of this letter, adjudicate or to respond to my appeal. Your failure to respond within this stipulated time will be taken as an acknowledgement that my alleged disqualification is without merit and ought to be disregarded by the Elections Committee with contempt it deserves.

“By copy of this letter, the Electoral Committee is advised of the development, and charged to make the necessary pronouncement within 48 hours that I am eligible to contest in the 1st of December 2018 Zifa elections, for the post of Zifa president,” he charged.

The Zifa Electoral Committee is expected to respond to Kamambo’s latest missive tomorrow.
