IN THE PRESS

-

THE first weeks of 2019 have not been rosy as Zimbabweans grapple to access fuel in the face of high prices of commodities and shortages of foreign currency.

This has provided easy headlines for our media colleagues in the private press.

But amidst the challenges, is there nothing good that is coming out Zimbabwe?

Yes problems exist, civil servants are demanding a salary review and doctors were on strike for 40 days, but all hope is not lost.

The Government is addressing several issues to turnaround the economy, which is expected to be an Upper Middle Income by 2030 as enunciated by President Mnangagwa. Some of the good tidings achieved by the new administration include increased industrial capacity utilisation, rehabilitations of the road network, creation of new jobs and luring foreign investment.

The President warned that the road to recovery won’t be a stroll in the park as austerity measures are required to deal with some of the economic problems which were created by former president Mr Robert Mugabe’s administration.

This calls for unity of purpose to transform the economy. It is not President Mnangagwa’s baby, but it is for us all.

In other circles, MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa is touted to be celebrating the challenges facing Zimbabwe, as he dreams for dialogue to get a Government position.

This is the same MDC which called for sanctions for political scores.

What kind of political leadership delights itself in the suffering of the masses just for power?

If the MDC cared for the people, why call for sanctions? Why threaten to shut down the country? Who will benefit from this?

Zimbabweans should be wary of such leaders who put selfish agendas ahead of national causes.

The challenges that we are going through will not last forever. Things are changing for the better to the glory of God!
