PEOPLE who were behind the recent violent protests which were under the guise of a stay-away should be thrown into prison. Why would you say you are protesting against the Government and then go on to loot and destroy private properties? I am failing to grasp the rationale behind these actions because how can you attack a fellow citizen who is also in the same situation as yourself. I think for now it would be best if Government was to ban all political gatherings, protests and stay-away or whatever they are called. Every time the opposition embarks on these illegal protest, they leave behind a devastating trail of destruction and as a citizen I believe such activities should just be condemned outright. — Machaya Tongayi, Harare.

*** Harare City council is taking us for granted. For a long time we have been complaining about the poor quality of water that they are pumping into our homes, but instead of improving, it has actually got worse. It now seems like they are just pumping water straight from the dam to our homes without purifying it. The water is either green with algae or mud brownish. — Harare Citizen. *** Commuter omnibus operators have been abusing their monopoly on the public transport scene, charging exorbitant fares whenever they feel like. While Government and the operators have agreed on the standard pricing for various distances, I will not be surprised if they ignore this and start charging what they want. It is high time that Government reintroduced their own public transport so that they can compete with these selfish operators. I remember the days when ZUPCO was fully functional. We never had much of a problem in terms of transport. But these days it is like we are in the ‘Wild West’, where lawlessness is the order of the day and overcharging passengers has become the norm. This situation needs to be rectified as a matter of urgency. — Paul Miyedzo, Harare.

*** Those who are selling fuel on the black market must be dealt with. These people are part of the problem that we are currently facing as a country as they hoard fuel and resale it at a premium. — Anonymous.

*** It’s very sad for Zimbabwe to degenerate into a state of chaos and mayhem. This is not the Zimbabwe we know. Let peace prevail. — Concerned Citizen, Kuwadzana.
