@makipa79 on “Shocking corruption at Passport Office” — I really wonder if the US$ 318 per passport is being used for its intended purpose with this level of corruption.
@Africa_inala on “Shocking corruption at Passport Office” — Where systems fail, corruption takes over. Remove queues, make it possible to apply for your passport in the comfort of your home, pay to a State account, upload proof of payment ( POP) and allow passport office account to receive POP and you only go to collect your passport.

Goto on “Corruption: A national security threat” — Mr Editor, there are different causes for corrupt activities, one of them is shortages . . . The corruption at the Registrar-General’s Office is mainly caused by shortages (of raw materials to produce) passports and IDs. We have similar shortages-induced corruption elsewhere — fuel, cash, roller meal, residential stands, foreign currency, university and teacher/ nurse training placements, etcetera. Ensuring adequate supply of these goods and services is the surest way of fighting shortages-related corruption. As for passports, it is mind-boggling why our Government is dragging its feet in decentralising issuance of these critical documents. By now, every national ID issuing office should be issuing passports. Ease of doing business should start with locals, please!
