Local artistes must be more proactive

-

OUR local artistes seem to have fallen asleep from the day the 21-day lockdown started, or even before that.

There has not been much to speak of in terms of entertainment and we are now being forced to be content watching Ginimbi’s Instagram contests.

If Ginimbi can attract thousands of views during his live sessions, why can’t some of our top artistes do the same and give their fans some form of entertainment online during this lockdown. There are just a few DJs who have been doing live sessions, but most mainstream artistes, those who actually have huge fan bases have been missing in action.

This is the perfect opportunity to revolutionise the arts sector. Artistes would get more following on their social media platforms as these have become the main source of entertainment for many people.

I can use Tory Lanez as an example. The Canadian artiste has gained millions of followers in just a few days, thanks to his Quarantine Radio show on his Instagram.

While he is already a global superstar, the current social media activity has seen his following blowing off the charts.

Artistes need to be creative and come with captivating material that we can tune into on their social media platforms.

We cannot just be tuning to social media so that we can listen to some people ranting about meaningless issues, when we can actually go there and watch some of our artistes giving us live acoustic sets or even new music.

Just a few days ago, DJ Maphorisa and his team released six albums in a space of 24 hours.

Hopefully our local entertainers will wake up and utilise online platforms. Simba Mukaka.
