Impala CEO Dondo dies

IMPALA Car Rental chief executive officer, music promoter and philanthro­pist Mr Thompson Dondo passed away in the early hours of yesterday after battling a kidney ailment and diabetes for some time.

“It is with great sadness that Impala Car Rental announces the passing on of its CEO, Thompson Kangamwira­i Dondo. He succumbed to kidney failure in the early hours of January 2, 2020.

‘‘He is survived by his wife, Matirasa Dondo, his three children, Ruvarashe, Ngonidzais­he and Mudiwa. Funeral arrangemen­ts to be advised in due course,” said the company in a statement.

Family spokespers­on Mr Peter Dondo confirmed the businessma­n’s untimely death.

“It is extremely sad that this has happened. He was diabetic for a long time but when I spoke to him on New Year’s Eve, he told me his kidneys were not functionin­g well and was on medication,” said Mr Dondo.

Mourners are gathered at the late businessma­n’s house in Mount Pleasant.

Mr Dondo was heavily involved in charity work and a fortnight ago, he donated $500 000 to Mr Nhamo Magwizi, a physically challenged man whose house was razed during recent demolition­s in Budiriro.

The late Mr Dondo’s business interests included a thriving piggery project in Chivhu.

He was a former director at the now-defunct former Premier Soccer League football club Kiglon, and sponsored many music artistes, including his son Ngonidzais­he, popularly known as King 98.
