Hope springs eternal for the new year

-

THE year 2020 came to a close last week with the New Year being celebrated differently as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Last year was generally tough for most people, as they struggled to adjust to the “new normal”. However, Zimbabweans who spoke to THE SUNDAY MAIL last week were hopeful that this year would be better.

Linda Mandaza (student)

In 2021, I will be completing my studies in Banking and Finance. It will be a transformative year for me, where I will transition from being a student and step into the real world.

I am praying that the Lord opens new doors for me.

I will also focus on improving myself and on loving myself.

Bryan Zhawi (Zhaxie

Management)

In 2021, I expect to see increased adoption of e-commerce by local businesses, because lockdowns may stretch a bit longer into the year. I believe it is high time we go digital in all aspects.

Therefore, there will be increased demand for digital marketers, software developers and social media managers this year.

I intend to take advantage of growing demand

olo Skai (musician)

I expect 2021 to be the breakout year of my music career. I expect to grow and build my base in the Zimbabwean music industry by creating new, relatable and creative content as well as continuing to tell my stories through my music.

2021 will definitely be my year of growth. Lynmary Wadzanai Kagoro

(student)

In 2020, we went through very tough times. This year I am encouraging everyone to maintain positive energy and work towards a better future.

We will get there by the grace of God; we just need to keep on praying and believing.

A happy new year to everyone.

Atkinson Munemo (logistics manager)

The world is still trying to recover from the coronavirus pandemic.

The logistics industry, just like any other sector, was badly affected by the subsequent lockdowns.

However, despite these challenges, we witnessed how logistics, transport and supply chains assisted the world in the wake of the pandemic. We hope to see more of this in 2021.

On a personal level, I will be looking to finally settle down with my girlfriend.

Hugh’O’brian Nhandara (construction contractor)

The year 2020 was very difficult because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

But I am hopeful that 2021 will be a productive year for all, especially in the construction sector where I earn a living.

I will be working hard to expand my business throughout Bulawayo and by God’s grace, I hope to be millionaire by year-end.

Pastor Gibson Botomani

2020 was a year full of challenges, but one which also brought about a lot of opportunities.

This year is really an opportunity to prove how much we are committed to God.

Authorities should continue making efforts to improve the lives of our people.

The church should take a leading role in governance this year; it should be ready to work with the Government and help uplift our people.

Tatenda Mupoperi (musician)

This year, I want to continue pursuing a career in music.

Last year was very tough for young musicians because of the lockdown restrictions, which meant that we could not have as many live performances as we would have liked.

I also want to learn a variety of musical instruments. Last year I taught myself how to play the mbira and this year I will take up the guitar and drums.

I also have plans to propose to my girlfriend.

I want 2021 to be a year for personal development.

I want to be positive-minded and fulfil all my New Year resolutions.

This year I want to become financially independent so that I do not depend on other people’s money.

I also want to grow spiritually and finish my university studies and pursue a master’s degree. I can achieve all of this with God on my side.

Gracious Dangaiso

Personally, I couldn’t wait any longer for 2021.

I used to write down my New Year resolutions, but this year I will not because I want to take each day as it comes and see how far this will take me.

Above all, I want 2021 to be the year that Covid-19 is eradicated because we lost so many people to this disease in 2020.

I do not want to lose more loved ones and I do not wish to see more people shedding tears.

The year 2021 should provide more business and empowerment opportunities for us young people.
