President Mnangagwa has ordered Treasury to release funds for the completion of rehabilitation works on the Chivi-Mhandamabwe Road which links Beitbridge Border Post to western parts of the country. Rehabilitation works on the road stopped early this year owing to funding constraints after 30km out of 48km had been covered.

Zimbabwe’s preparations for the CHAN
tournament suffered a huge dent after nine players in the provisional squad tested positive for Covid-19. The identities of the affected players were kept under wraps but the individuals have since been notified and quarantined in line with World Health Organisation protocols. ZIFA spokesperson Xolisani Gwesela confirmed the Covid-19 cases in the camp. He said the association has responded by suspending the training camp.

Eastern Highlands has started receiving continuous light rains as a result of the former Tropical Storm Chalane, which is now an overland Tropical Depression, with the public urged to watch out for flooding, flash flooding, sudden gushes of water, mudslides or landslides, destructive winds and collapse of huts due to excessive moisture within the next 12 hours and beyond. Localised heavier downpours above 50 millimetres over the next 24 hours are projected especially over areas along the main watershed and the Eastern Highlands.

President Mnangagwa has praised Zimbabweans for their resilience in defending the country’s sovereignty during a difficult yet productive year in which successes were registered across all sectors, firmly laying the foundation for the attainment of Vision 2030 of becoming an upper middle-income economy. In his address at the 114th Central Committee meeting at the ruling party’s headquarters in Harare, the President and ZANU PF First Secretary said the Second Republic was inspired by milestones in infrastructural development, industrialisation and increased agricultural production.

Tropical Depression Chalane has greatly weakened and has passed. Light rains and windy conditions are, however, still projected. The Meteorological Services Department ( MSD) said it will continue to monitor specific areas to assess rainfall patterns and possible effects. Business was as usual in Chimanimani Village, with vendors already selling their produce.
