All things are possible in life
BUSINESSWOMEN are changing generational stereotypes.
Gone are the days when entrepreneurship was considered a preserve for men.
Successful businesswomen are changing the perception that only men are capable of being good leaders. This is a challenge to women who lack self-confidence or have been looked down upon to rise and claim their seat at the table. Yes, it is possible!
Backgrounds do not matter. Discovering yourself or becoming an extraordinary person requires boldness.
Ruth Makandiwa has more to her name than just being the wife of Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa.
Apart from hosting one of the most successful awards in the country, she has also received national recognition for her outstanding charity work.
She started assisting the less privileged way before many people knew her.
She has a humble background, but that did not stop her from helping those in need with the little she had back then.
We also have a Kenyan businesswoman, Njeri Rionge, who has made a name for herself in the IT world. Her story starts from the days she was selling yoghurt in schools.
She had a big dream and never looked back. The resilient woman stayed true to her vision. Rionge is one of the pioneer women investors in the IT sector in Africa and co-founded Wananchi Online.
Wananchi Online is one of East Africa’s first mass-market internet service providers, which has outstandingly grown to become the region’s leading internet company. Then we have Oprah Winfrey.
She is well-known for her dominance in the media industry. However, her rise to fame has not been all rosy. She had to battle racism, body shaming and gender discrimination on her road to stardom. Abuse only made her resolute in her quest to scale dizzy heights. Today, she has become a symbol of breaking stereotypes based on gender, race and physical appearance.
Oprah is an inspiration to many women and girls across the globe. The list of successful women is endless.
Dare to dream. Do not be afraid of having great ambitions. Owning a company is not easy, but it is possible if you dream big and believe in yourself. At times you do not even need capital to start a business, but only your commitment (labour), dedication and willingness to engage in life-changing opportunities. Also, remember the term business is not limited. An actress or any other artist is also a businessperson. Success in business is highly determined by your passion. The sky is the limit. Do not lose heart even when things appear to be going south. Fight to make a difference in your life and country. If you succeed in setting up a business, you are creating employment in the process.
Quote of the week: Do not be afraid of having great ambitions.
