Let’s guard against Omicron variant
THE festive season is upon us and Covid-19 is raging once again.
Following the detection of the Omicron variant, which scientists believe is highly transmissible, we need to heighten our alertness.
Given the amount of travelling that takes place during the Christmas holidays, the virus is likely to spread a lot.
The levels of complacency that we have witnessed in terms of respecting preventive protocols should be a cause for concern.
What is clear is that no one has an appetite for another hard lockdown.
This is why we should all take it upon ourselves to respect the rules so that we limit major outbreaks.
Police must be put on high alert and enforce the Covid-19 regulations without prejudice.
Failure to enforce preventive regulations will force the Government’s hand into imposing another hard lockdown.
It is up to us as individuals to ensure that we curb the spread of the disease by limiting unnecessary travel, wearing face masks and maintaining good hygiene. After all, the virus does not move, but it is us the hosts who move.
The Government should continue carrying out awareness campaigns to educate citizens on the importance of adhering to the set guidelines in order to minimise the spread of the deadly disease during the festive season.
We should all get vaccinated so that we not only protect ourselves, but those we love as well.
