Govt fight against drug abuse commendable
LET me just take this opportunity to appreciate the efforts that the Government is making to tackle drug abuse after realising the serious effects it has on both individual health and societal well-being.
The Inter-Ministerial Committee is doing a good job in making sure that drug dealers are arrested. I am also happy that over 800 people have been sent to rehabilitation centres, because drug abuse has been having a devastating impact on the mental health of many a youth in the country.
I also welcome the Government’s strategic approach to drug abuse. To date, a drug and substance abuse unit has been set up, and social development officers have been seconded to establish the unit and provision of psycho-social support is currently ongoing.
The Government is doing well in dealing with this matter, and they are ensuring that sanity prevails among the country’s youths whose livelihoods had been threatened by substance abuse.
