Covid-19 rocks Div One fixtures

THE Northern Region Division One Soccer League has become the latest casualty of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The league was forced to call off five of their Match Day 4 games, which had been scheduled for this weekend.

Simba Bhora, which is being affected for the second consecutiv­e time, had a match with Black Mambas deferred, while Karoi’s date with Pam was also shelved.

Ngezi Under-19 were supposed to go up against Chegutu Pirates, while CUMA Academy had a date against BETA XI.

The final match to be called off was the Commando Bullets and Golden Valley clash.

NRSL representa­tive Sweeney Mushonga described the situation as an ‘unfortunat­e developmen­t’, but one precipitat­ed by the rise in Covid-19 cases.

“Obviously the players and the technical teams are a priority to us, and we have to protect them at all costs.
