World of lab-grown human-animal hybrids

HUMAN-ANIMAL hybrids could be used to grow lifesaving organs and replacement limbs — but some fear it may be scientists “playing God”.

History has been made as David Bennett, 57, from Maryland in the US, had a genetically-modified pig heart implanted into his chest.

Bennett had terminal heart disease, and underwent the bizarre-sounding procedure as a last hope — and he is now doing well after the operation.

And in the past scientists have used the techniques to splice human and monkey embryos together, transplant foetal organs into rats, and even grow human ears on mice.

The idea of the strange experiments tests is for human-ready organs to be grown on mutant animals in lab conditions — and helping to fill the transplant void left by organ shortages.

So-called “chimera” embryos and the use of animal parts, known as xenotransplants, have been very controversial, with some feeling that scientists have crossed the line.

Medical Daily asked in 2016 if the research was a “Medical Miracle or Playing God?”.

And in some countries the research is illegal, with experiments on human chimeras only being allowed in the

US as recently as 2016.

Some accuse scientists of carrying out “Frankenstein” experiments, and the tests have not gone over well with many religious groups.

Evidence of a huge moon beyond our Solar System has been discovered by astronomers.

Astronomers find rare “supermoon” beyond our Solar System and it could change what we know about the universe.

Finding moons beyond the Solar System we call home is very rare and there is only one other example of exomoon evidence but it’s never been confirmed.

An exomoon or exoplanet is a moon or planet outside our Solar System.

The first ever sighting of what could be an exomoon was made four years ago.

This second finding could mean that moon’s orbiting planets are actually much more common than first thought. A study about the potentially new “supermoon” has been published in Nature Astronomy.

Lead researcher David Kipping said: “Astronomers have found more than 10 000 exoplanet candidates so far, but exomoons are far more challenging.

“They are terra incognita.”

Terra incognita is just another way to say the moons are unexplored territory.

Bride threatens to call off wedding after groomsmen call

A make-up artist has revealed the time a bride-to-be almost called off the wedding moments before, after getting a last-minute call from one of the groomsmen.

If you have ever wondered what goes on behind closed doors at people’s weddings, then look no further, because one make-up artist has lifted the lid on some of the craziest experiences she has had while painting brides’ faces.

Most recently, make-up artist Rachel Watson recalled the time she was helping a bride get ready for her big day, when all of a sudden she threatened to call the whole thing off over one tiny detail.

They were getting ready and everything was going well, until one of the groomsmen popped in to say hi and see how everyone was.

The bride asked how her future hubby was doing ahead of the ceremony and the groomsmen told her he was fine and was just relaxing while having a beer.

“That was 1 000 percent the worst thing he could have told her,” Rachel said.

“She was fuming, so she just takes her phone, calls him, and goes off about him drinking, just going OFF and apparently he had her on speaker so the groomsmen heard everything.”

Rachel continued: “As guys do, they made a joke about him not being allowed to hear and she heard that. So, then she proceeds to tell the groom that all of the groomsmen need to apologise to her for mocking her, or this wedding’s just not going to happen.

“He apologises on their behalf and that’s not good enough and he is choosing his friends over her.

“I continue to paint this little face while she is screaming because I just want to get the hell out of there. So, she is going off and then tells him he needs to come outside.”

The make-up artist then played a recording of the bride absolutely screaming at her future hubby and a huge argument erupting.

And it goes on for a long, long time. The craziest part of the whole debacle? The couple actually went on to get married after all. — Wires.
