Keeping décor cozy

-

AFTER the Christmas season, we often yank all of our cozy colourful decor down, toss it in boxes and leave the house bare and stark feeling. I like to keep the coziness of the season evident in my home’s decor after Christmas — without the obvious festive themes. Are you looking for some comfy and beautiful post-Christmas decor ideas for your own home? Here are some tips that you can use at your house.

Keep some of the greenery out

Don’t pack up your bottle brush trees or garlands just yet. When they are stripped bare of obviously Christmas-y extras (like red ornaments or glittery things), greenery can look great as decor in the winter months. I chose to leave the trees on our mantel up.

Think white and bright

White is a great colour to use right after Christmas when you want your decor to feel fresh and bright - like how your outlook on the new year is. I switched my drapes back to my favourite turquoise florals with the bright white background.

Keep the cozy textiles out

In January, it just feels right to keep all of your furry, chunky throws and pillows out to add some comfort and coziness to the cold month. The white breaks up the beautiful deep charcoal of our new sofas and the furry texture of the rug contrasts so well with the smooth texture of the sofa.

Add bare branch and

barnwood accents

These little birch wood candles were a find at a grocery store a few years ago and I love how they look in the winter in my barn wood box centrepiece.

Bark and bare branches are beautiful decor accents that are very wintry and rustic looking.

Think about using things like birch wood inspired candles, bare branches in a jar or vase, forest-inspired artwork or a stack of birch logs by the fireplace in your decor. — Wires.
