ZACC must expand monitoring operation

-

I WAS impressed to learn that the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), as part of efforts to fight graft, is undertaking spot-checks at Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) offices to investigate any incidents of suspected sleaze.

This was long overdue.

For years, officials at CVR have ridden roughshod on desperate citizens seeking to register their vehicles.

As a result of the corruption, there was a massive vehicle registration backlog.

It is my humble plea to the ZACC leadership to expand this operation to other institutions such as nursing schools, council offices, the Immigration Department and the Passport Office.

There is a lot of corruption taking place at these institutions and it needs to be stamped out.

Because of graft at these institutions, the country could be losing millions of dollars in potential revenue.

Our country cannot develop into an upper-middle-income society if we allow corruption to go unchecked.

I applaud the Government for declaring a zero-tolerance to corruption and we need to start seeing the results through arrests and prosecution of all corrupt officials.

Gwiriza Kodza.
