ALCOHOL consumption can have a number of ill effects on your body. Once you are hooked on to it, it becomes difficult to let go. One of the biggest problems is the cravings you get every day when you are used to alcohol consumption. So, in the interest of protecting yourself from the wrath of alcohol consumption, here are simple remedies to help you put a stop to excessive alcohol consumption and also contribute towards your general health and fitness.

Eat well

That is right! Filling your stomach with food is actually an effective way to say no to alcohol cravings. Just make sure you eat something healthy and filling.

There are a number of food items you should eat if you are into alcohol consumption. If you can manage three healthy meals a day, your stomach will be full and your body will resist the temptation to consume alcohol.

Cut down on your sugar intake

Several studies have shown that your alcohol craving may actually be a craving for sugar. Alcohol is broken down into sugar by the body, so when you do not drink, it is the sugar that your body craves. By reducing the intake of sugar in your daily habits, you can train your body to curb the sugar cravings and, therefore, reduce the alcohol cravings, too.

Rediscover your hobbies

One of the things that happen to regular drinkers is that they stop enjoying activities that they once loved to indulge in. That activity is replaced by a session of alcohol consumption. By rediscovering your hobbies and keeping yourself occupied with them, you will be able to resist your alcohol craving much better.

Exercise

This one is a no-brainer really. Alcohol cravings are a result of the stimulation of certain circuits in our brains related to addictive substances.

Exercise, studies have shown, stimulates the same sensors and neurotransmitters in the brain as these addictive substances, therefore helping you curb cravings. Also, as your fitness levels go high, your body helps you turn sway from self-destructive behaviours like excessive alcohol consumption.

Drink lots of water

You will be surprised to know that on a number of occasions, your thirst for alcohol is actually a thirst for water and can curb the craving to consume any alcohol at all.

Water is the most important ingredient your body needs to survive and drinking a couple of glasses of water when you crave alcohol can help say no to alcoholic beverages.

So, next time you have alcohol cravings, try these easy remedies and you will see how it can actually be quite easy to say “no” to alcohol. You just have to want it. —Wires.
