Increase in traffic accidents worrying

- Gordon Matemai.

AS a concerned Zimbabwean, I would like to draw your attention to the growing challenge of road accidents in Zimbabwe’s major cities and towns.

The roads have become a death-trap of sorts. As people now seem to be always in a hurry, reckless driving appears to be the root cause of many accidents in urban areas.

There is no regard for road signs. People are least concerned about their safety or traffic rules, because most follow these rules only because they are afraid of the police. When the police are not present, drivers wantonly violate traffic laws. The increase in the number of vehicles in cities and towns is also contributing to traffic hazards. Traffic police and the Traffic Council of Zimbabwe should do more to monitor the situation in urban areas because it is increasingly becoming dangerous to use roads in our cities and towns.
