Dangerous mining in Rushinga

AN opencast mine in Rushinga, Magarenhewe Village, at Nyamarodza, is flouting environmental laws.

Villagers who stay almost 500 metres from the mine have not been relocated.

During blasting, the dust that wafts through the area pose a health risk to villagers.

Tree leaves have turned white due to the dust and villagers’ crops have been affected.

The mine should have relocated villagers to a safer place.

It seems local officials have turned a blind eye.
