Diplomats salute Zim’s Independence

- Wallace Ruzvidzo

ZIMBABWE rightfully won its Independence and has progressively established itself as a truly democratic people’s republic, foreign diplomats accredited to the country have said.

In congratulatory messages ahead of tomorrow’s Independence Day celebrations, ambassadors accredited to Zimbabwe said the country under the leadership of President Mnangagwa was vigorously working towards attaining its full potential.

Outgoing Cuban Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mrs Carmelina Rodriguez said Zimbabwe’s freedom from the yoke of colonialism came as a result of sacrifices by gallant sons and daughters of the country.

“Zimbabwean citizens should always remember that the freedom they enjoy today was not granted on a silver platter, it came at a heavy cost,” she said.

“Lives were lost as sons and daughters of Zimbabwe made the ultimate sacrifice to liberate the country from the oppressors’ rule.

“Such an immense sacrifice to liberate the country should remain the compass to guide the people of Zimbabwe, especially our youth.”

Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe

Mr Guo Shaochun said China is proud to have assisted the country during the struggle for independence and will continue to support it in its quest to attain an upper-middle-income society by 2030.

“As your friend, we are proud that we were there for you during your hard struggles for independence. We are proud that we have been there for you since the first day this independent country was born.

“April 18, 2022, also marks the 42nd anniversary of the establishment of China-Zimbabwe diplomatic relations.

“On your unstoppable journey towards Vision 2030, trust that China will continue to give you her full support and call on international community to give the support,” he said.

Ambassador Guo said Zimbabwe had made great strides in growing its economy and improving the livelihoods of citizens.

“Under the able leadership of your Government, you, the people of Zimbabwe, made this happen and you should be celebrated.

“Through good times and bad, we have marched together, as good friends, good partners and good brothers.

“Come rain or shine, we will be each other’s most faithful friend in the quest for greater development,” he said.

Russian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Nikolai Krasilnikov said Zimbabwe has undergone impressive socio-economic transformation despite the threats and challenges brought about by illegal sanctions, climate change and the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The people of Zimbabwe gained Independence through the fight and sacrifice of the gallant sons and daughters of the nation, so the State of Zimbabwe was established as a truly People’s Republic.

“For 42 glorious years it has been following independent policy inside the country and in the international arena,” he said.

“As an all-weather friend, Russia congratulates Zimbabwe on its Independence Day, wishing well-being, prosperity and every success in all the endeavours focused on the national development goals.”

Mr Krasilnikov said Zimbabwe and Russia enjoy cordial relations that date back to the liberation struggle hence the two countries continue to support each other.

He added President Mnangagwa had instituted policies that produce tangible results as Zimbabwe makes significant strides towards economic emancipation.

“The policy of engagement and re-engagement proclaimed by H.E. the President Comrade Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has produced tangible results as Zimbabwe makes significant contribution to establishing a new world order based on respect of sovereign national identity and traditions, on multilateralism, non-interference in domestic affairs, on adherence to the principles of international law.”
