‘Celebrate, protect and restore planet earth’

-

BILLIONAIRES such as Elon Musk and Sir Richard Branson are exploring the galaxy and seeking life on other planets.

However, of all the planets in the galaxy, we have the third rock from the sun — earth.

As we celebrate World Environment Day, the focus is on the theme.

“Only One Earth” is the campaign slogan, with the focus on “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature”.

The campaign “Only One Earth” calls for collective, transformative action on a global scale to celebrate, protect, and restore our planet.

The Covid-19 pandemic has challenged the way humanity interacts with the natural environment as well as the design needs for homes.

David Harvey says that by 2050, more than 70 percent of the world’s population will be living in urban areas.

The expansion of our cities is inevitable with the increase in demand for upward mobility.

Growth in cities comes with an impact on the environment, particularly. Urban environments need to be liveable, integrated, environmentally friendly, and multi-functional.

We are using the equivalent of 1/6 of the earths to sustain our current way of life, and ecosystems are struggling to keep up.

Individuals and civil society must play a key role in raising awareness and urging governments and the private sector to make large-scale changes.

Around the world, an increasing number of land developers and property owners are embracing commune-style developments that are completely self-sufficient and have a low carbon footprint.

The World Green Council survey finds that real estate developers across 60 countries are veering focus towards environment friendly houses.

Sustainable development is defined as economic development that is conducted without depletion of natural resources.

In support of the United Nations, Sustainable Development Goals, environment protection and sustainability initiatives are achieving a strong foothold worldwide.

As a result, property developers are increasingly finding business opportunities and significance of green homes.

Developing Zimbabwe in a more efficient, greener and cleaner way is the best means of achieving a healthy living environment as well as economic growth.

And this can be made possible by lessening pollution, using a few resources, generating less waste and preserving greenery.

In spite of the high demand in residential and commercial building projects all over the country, there is still available potential to merge energy concerns and natural resources with reality.

In fact, Zimbabwe has to come a long way to gain substantial transformation to eco-friendly homes, though demand for green construction is rapidly growing in recent times.

West Property Zimbabwe is eagerly pursuing its Zimbabwean dream through the construction of mixed-use developments which meet the current needs of its clients without compromising the ability of future generations to enjoy the legacy of its footprint.

This is in line with the company’s vision is to become the leading customer centric developer of exceptional properties in Zimbabwe.

With the continuous growth of urban areas comes pollution, particularly due to poor waste management.

Property developers and stakeholders in the development of cities need to take into account the impact of urbanisation on the environment.

From a sustainability point of view, achieving carbon-neutral, green building certification is a big driving force.

Improved efficiency allows for flexibility — a space can with relative ease be customised to fit a tenant’s specific needs.

The latest trend of eco-friendly developments by West Property include green spaces.

Simultaneously, the company is offering a unique blend of stylish and modern living with green elements.

It is an investment in bespoke, ecofriendly property that takes cognisance of the times and utilises renewable energy such as solar.

The properties come with flexible phased construction hence allowing room for green areas with each phase.

Within the heart of Borrowdale, Pokugara Residential Estate offers a family environment that is not only modern and elegant, but also secure and spacious, whether in the form of stand-alone homes or townhouse developments.

Millennium Heights, in particular, offers unique, multi-level with some blocks cascading, strikingly designed high rise apartments with spacious walkways, ample parking, social and entertainment communal facilities.

The developments’ projection includes a recreational park that will include a lake, trees, manicured gardens, and a sanctuary for the natural habitat.

In addition, tree planting exercises by staff will be an ongoing activity so as to contribute to better quality air, soil and water conservation.

Pomona City is the momentous development that offers the blueprint for what green cities should look like from the ground going up.

Phase 1A has some stands facing the golf course, offering a green scenery by virtue of the towering trees along the boundary.

For Phase 1B and C the developer is committed to creating green buffers within the community.

The future “city within a city” will encompass an eco-friendly layout that brings harmony between its residents and the surrounding environment.

To this end, it is important to leave a beneficial legacy that has a positive environmental impact.

According to the message from the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme, Inger Andersen, “. . . because we are only one people and we have only one earth. We have only one home. And that is worth standing up for.” — West Properties.
