‘Gogo Mangwana was a shrewd mentor’

- Sunday Mail Reporter

THE late Mbuya Sabina Mangwana was an astute mentor who inculcated characteristics of intelligence, unity and peace to her children, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa has said.

Gogo Mangwana, who died on Wednesday aged 90, after a long illness, is mother to Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary, Mr Nick Mangwana and his brother, ZANU PF Secretary for Legal Affairs, Cde Paul Mangwana.

Speaking at Mbuya Mangwana’s funeral service in Kwekwe yesterday, Minister Mutsvangwa said mothers play an important role in moulding their children to become leaders.

“It is not easy to raise successful children like what Gogo Mangwana did. Not every woman or mother is able to do what she did. The results of her faith and character are evident for everyone to see. What Gogo Mangwana is teaching us today is how important it is for mothers to raise their children in a good manner. She was a shrewd mentor.”

Cde Paul Mangwana said his mother was a family unifier.

“Our mother always wanted us her children to live in harmony. I am happy that we have followed her teachings until she died. She was an embodiment of love,” he said.

Mr Nick Mangwana said he was grateful for the long life his mother had lived.

“I am happy that our mother was blessed to live until such an age. She even managed to see my grandchild. It is a blessing which many do not get to experience.”

Yesterday, the Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC) conveyed their condolences to the Mangwana family saying:

“Gogo Mangwana was not only a mother but a mentor, confidant and counsellor to many. Her advice and availability, especially in difficult times, helped many people to always focus on positivity.

“Gogo Mangwana will always be remembered for opening her arms wide to, not only her children but to anyone in need. Gogo Mangwana is irreplaceable and will sadly be missed. She was such a kind, gentle soul. She will always be remembered for her generous nature.”
