A prefect should be highly responsible

- Divine Zvomuya

ON March 6, a great responsibility was laid on my shoulders as I was selected to be a prefect.

As a person who already had a desire to be selected for that role, I had done my personal research prior to the selection day on what it entails to be a prefect and how one can execute the admirable duties.

So, it was not difficult for me to take on the role as I knew what was expected of me.

As a prefect I am tasked to maintain order on the school campus.

I have to make sure that students are adhering to school rules, for example arriving on time and in the proper complete school uniform. I also have to make sure that fellow students are at the best of their behaviour and they conduct themselves as they are told.

In other words, I enforce instructions given by staff members to fellow learners all the time. If anyone does not abide by the instructions, I take note and inform the teachers when they are back for further action(s).

For one to be a good and exemplary prefect, they have to be able to maintain high grades in their studies as that is the main goal for going to school. This can only be achieved when one has principles which they strictly abide by.

The major lesson I have learnt from being a prefect is that you should never abandon your studies, duties or fail to meet the standards which are set for you.

As a leader, you have to be able to create a balance between your duties and studies.

Leadership is all about setting good examples. Being a prefect is a responsibility but it is not difficult as some students may think.
