FIVE students from Munashe Private High School in Mutoko have been selected as recipients of scholarships through a partnership of the First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa’s Angel of Hope Foundation and Germany-based Merck Foundation.

The school and recipients are ecstatic over the development.

Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa is the Ambassador of Merck Foundation “More Than a Mother” campaign.

This is a strong movement which aims to empower infertile women through access to information, education and change of mind-set.

For the first time, Merck Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Merck KGaA Germany and represented by its chief executive officer, Dr Rasha Kelej officially launched their programmes in Zimbabwe, which among other purposes, aim to support girl-child education in Zimbabwe.

Transforming patient care, building health care capacity and empowering women are some of the objectives of these programmes that have been rolled out since 2019.

Nicole Garwe, Shalom Chisadza, Trishy Chiriseri, Florence Mariwo and Natasha Mushanyuki who are Form One students at Munashe Private High School will no longer have headaches over tuition fees.

The partnership will meet all their educational requirements.

Munashe Private High School is located at Mutoko Centre along the Harare-Nyamapanda Highway, some 170km from Harare.

“Your Excellency, Amai Mnangagwa, as Munashe Private High School, we are sincerely honoured to have been selected as some of the recipients of these prestigious scholarships.

“Thank you for your generosity, which has allowed five students from our school to access high valued and quality education which will eventually transform their livelihoods in future,” said the school’s director

Mr Archiford Gwangwadze.

He added; “Amai, allow me to take you back to the emotional testimonies that were delivered by the parents and guardians of the beneficiaries. These testimonies are a true reflection of their heartfelt gratitude to your motherly love that you have always displayed to the entire nation.

“As the learners embark on their education journey at Munashe, we are very thankful for receiving your thoughtful gift. Because of your scholarship, we envision a brighter and prosperous future for the five girl child beneficiaries. Thank you once again, for your thoughtful and generous gift.”

Munashe Private High School was started at the backyard of a business premise with a single student whom teachers took turns to teach.

The school focuses on students who would have failed their subjects for one reason or another.
