Fiesta Fiesta widens scope

. . . as Agric shutdown gigs promise fireworks

- Andrew Moyo

ON September 4, Fiesta Fiesta will host the last edition of their Amapiano Series at Alex Sports Club with South Africa-based Sha Sha (pictured) set to be the headline act.

The series has hosted some of the biggest names in the genre with the likes of Young Stunna, Zuma, Reece Madlisa, Dbn Gogo and Uncle Waffles being roped in.

It comes as no surprise that these artistes have managed to attract large numbers considering that their sound is currently popular among urban music fans.

While Fiesta Fiesta has grown to become one of the biggest international artistes’ promoters in the country, it has not always been like that.

The event which has been around for the past seven years started off as a DJ-based monthly event but as their crowds grew bigger, organisers decided to start bringing in international artistes.

“When we started the event, we wanted to promote local DJs and we managed to do that successfully,” said Chuckie “Chucknosis” Ayisha in an interview with The Sunday Mail Society.

“We have many talented DJs in the country and they were doing well as headliners but as time went on, we realised that our followers wanted more which is why we started bringing international artistes.

“DJs are still a significant component of our events as we know the value that they bring.”

Despite being a major hit, organisers of the event have however decided to fold the Amapiano series and introduce artistes from other genres including Afro-pop, dancehall and hip hop.

“Amapiano is huge at the moment and all the events we have held under that banner have been a major success but in order to give fans value for money, we also need to spice it up and bring artistes from other genres.

“After this edition, we are going to have Nasty C coming through so that hip hop fans can also enjoy. From there we are also engaging Afro-pop and dancehall artistes so that we can cater for everyone.

“We are already talking to one of the biggest artistes from Nigeria who I cannot mention by name at the moment since we have not finalised the deal so there is so much to look out for.”

Commenting on the forthcoming show, Chucknosis said it was befitting to have Sha Sha headlining the last edition of the Amapiano series.

“Sha Sha is not just one of our own but she is one of the biggest voices on the Amapiano scene so bringing her for this particular edition was a no-brainer.

“She is the Queen of Amapiano after all and there are many people who have not had the opportunity to see her performing live on stage so this will certainly be an epic gig.

“She will be supported by Charisma who is an upcoming singer and there will be numerous top DJs playing on the day.”

He added that they were planning to expand the event to other parts of the county and are set to host events in Bulawayo, Mutare, Kwekwe and Chinhoyi to name a few areas.

Agric show shutdown Meanwhile, it will be entertainment galore on September 3 as several gigs have been lined-up to ‘shut down’ the Zimbabwe Agriculture Show (ZAS).

The gigs make a welcome return after a two-year Covid-19 induced hiatus.

Traditionally, the last day of ZAS is considered to be one of the busiest on the showbiz calendar, as major gigs, across genres, are held.

Leading promoter Partson “Chipaz Promotions” Chimbodza has basically taken over the city on the day with different shows at various venues.

These shows will include the “Harare Cup Clash” at City Sports Centre, “Dare Guru Gospel Show” at Harare Gardens, “Sungura Fest” at Pamuzinda and the “Face of Hip Hop and Amapiano” at Longchen Plaza.

Revellers will certainly be spoilt for choice as all gigs feature quality acts.

“No single person has been left out. We have something for everyone,” said Chipaz Promotions founder.
