VACANCY - EXECUTIVE POSITIONS OFFICE OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR
The University of Zimbabwe is inviting suitably qualified and experienced
individuals to apply for position Executive that have arisen in the Office of The Vice Chancellor.
POST 1: PRO-VICE CHANCELLOR, ACADEMIC AFFAIRS AND ADMINISTRATION
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the Pro-Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs and Administration will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation and monitoring of University policies, systems and procedures
for the conduct and administration of academic matters in line with the institution's Vision and Strategic Plan. This is a University Executive position and calls for a competent, strategic, and focused individual with an understanding of Zimbabwe's higher education landscape as guided by the Heritage-based
Education 5.0 Philosophy in the context of the National Vision 2030 and beyond.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspired by the University of Zimbabwe Vision, Mission and Philosophy, and informed by the institution's Strategic Plan, the specific duties and responsibilities of the Pro-Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs and Administration will include:
1. Developing policies and institutional frameworks for successful implementation of a programmatic approach to University teaching and learning, and related academic affairs, as an underpinning for Education 5.0;
2. Providing strategic leadership in the development, implementation, monitoring and review of policies, systems and procedures focused on fostering a research-based, productive, innovative and competitive academic culture among staff and students;
3. Championing the coordination and supervision of academic programs and co-curricular activities among University Faculties, Institutes, Centres, and associate/affiliate Colleges for seamless implementation of the University's
strategic plan, with a central thrust on providing effective solutions to problems and challenges faced by industry, commerce and society at different scales;
4. Overseeing curriculum development/review and/or academic planning processes towards implementation of student-centered and innovative delivery approaches/methodologies for the University's modularized teaching and learning programmes;
5. Formulating policies and developing mechanisms for fostering heritagebased and inclusive education within and across faculties, departments and institutes in line with the University's transformative programmatic approach;
6. Receiving, analyzing and synthesizing quality assurance reports from the Directorate of Quality Assurance and Professional Development to make recommendations to the Vice Chancellor;
7. Coordinating and supervising implementation of the national qualifications and academic promotions frameworks by University faculties and institutes as provided for by Zimbabwe's Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development;
8. Provide oversight on the University's student affairs and general administration of academic affairs;
9. Performing any other duties and functions of the University as assigned by the Vice Chancellor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The successful candidate should be a leading academic, preferably at Associate Professor or Full Professor level and exhibiting high level of academic and professional maturity, hardworking and with ability to pay attention to detail among other desirable attributes. He/she should also have excellent written and oral communication skills and good leadership skills. The candidate should have, among other attributes:
i. An earned PhD/DPhil Degree from a recognized University; ii. Relevant experience at University level in research and innovation and any of
the five missions of Education 5.0; iii. Relevant administrative and professional development experience working
with diverse stakeholders in academia; iv. An excellent record of resource mobilization and fund-raising; v. Track record of success in collaborative research and academic
partnerships, and 'putting research into use'; vi. A record of serving on University Committees; vii. A proven record of published scholarship as well as on providing academic
mentorship; viii. Commitment to academic excellence and innovation to address societal
problems.
DESIRED COMPETENCIES
i. Clear knowledge of the national socio-economic development objectives
and aspirations for Zimbabwe; ii. In-depth understanding of Zimbabwe's development aspirations in the
context of Africa and Global development challenges; iii. Knowledge of University academic regulations and processes, including

education institutions in Zimbabwe's development; v. Clear understanding of Zimbabwe's Education 5.0 in the context of the
National Industrialization and Modernization agenda; vi. A high level of diligence and ability to work without supervision; vii. Exceptional knowledge and experience in processes for the core functions of the University and knowledgeable about functions of the Zimbabwe Council
for Higher Education (ZIMCHE); viii. Knowledge and ability to develop and implement models for capacity
building in tertiary institutions; ix. Use of ICT in higher education and academic institutions; x. Be able to cultivate inquisitiveness in the institution, resulting in new thinking

POST 2: PRO-VICE CHANCELLOR, RESEARCH INNOVATION AND INDUSTRIALISATION
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the Pro-Vice Chancellor Research Innovation and industrialization will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation and monitoring of University policies, systems and procedures to promote a relevant, productive and futuristic University research-innovation
industrialization ecosystem model that undergirds the institution's industrialization and commercialization agenda in line with its Vision and Strategic Plan. This is a University Executive position and calls for a competent, strategic, and focused individual with an understanding of' national Heritagebased Education 5.0 philosophy and the role of higher education institutions towards the Zimbabwe's National Vision 2030 and beyond.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspired by the University of Zimbabwe Vision, Mission and Philosophy, and informed by the institution's outcome-based Strategic Plan, the specific duties
and responsibilities of the Pro-Vice Chancellor Research Innovation and Industrialization will include:
1. Championing development and functioning of the University's researchinnovation-industrialization ecosystem that inter-connects research and
academic institutions, industry, entrepreneurs and societal needs through production of relevant good and services;
Oversee the development, implementation and management of the University's research innovation, industrialization and business development Projects, Programmes and Partnerships;
Providing strategic leadership for generation and monetization of Intellectual Property (IPs) by Faculties, Departments, Institutes and Centres and their collaborating partners through promotion of a culture of research, innovation and entrepreneurship among University students, staff and key
stakeholders;
4. Oversee the operationalization Innovation Hub, Industrial Park and Industrial Incubation Centre in promoting the development and advancement of prototypes, new technologies and products, start-ups and
commercialization models, and the promotion of University business interests;
5. Lead the development of policy and institutional frameworks for promoting effective management of the University's intellectual property;
6. Developing and/or promoting implementation policies and mechanisms for taking research and innovation outputs and outcomes from faculties, institutes, including from collaborating external partners industry, commerce
and the general citizenry through the Innovation Hub and Industrial Park(s) towards the University's broader industrialization and commercialization agenda;
7. Providing strategic leadership in the development of policies, systems and procedures that guide the University's industrial and commercial business partnerships and joint ventures;
Promote the integration of research, innovation and industrialization processes and outputs into University teaching and learning and community outreach structures and systems;
Promoting scientific, technological and knowledge platforms for
communicating and advancing research and innovation methodologies, processes, outputs and outcomes for national economic development;
10. Promoting the internationalization of the University's research innovation processes and outputs;
11. Performing any other duties and functions of the University as assigned by the Vice Chancellor.

POST 3: PRO-VICE CHANCELLOR, INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT AND DIGITALIZATION
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Infrastructure and Digitalization will be responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring policies, systems and procedures for promoting a conducive University infrastructure and digital environment for efficient delivery of Education 5.0, and
for the wellbeing of students, staff and University partners. This is a University Executive position and requires a competent, strategic, and hands-on individual
with an understanding of' national Heritage-based Education 5.0 philosophy and the role of higher education institutions towards the Zimbabwe's National Vision 2030 and beyond.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspired by the University of Zimbabwe Vision, Mission and Philosophy, and informed by the institution's Strategic Plan, the specific duties and responsibilities
of the Pro-Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs and Administration will include: 1. Providing strategic leadership development, implementation and
monitoring of institutional policies, systems and procedures for establishment, maintenance and use of University's physical and digital infrastructure, equipment and systems
Proving oversight in the design/adaptation, implementation and evaluation of infrastructure, facilities and equipment for suitability and relevance to the University's Education 5.0 missions
Promoting strategic partnerships, including development and implementation of public-private partnerships (PPP) and related models, in the modernization of University infrastructure and facilities Providing strategic leadership in the digitalization University processes and
systems
Promoting efficient implementation of the University's engineering and infrastructure development, ICT services and digitalization Projects and Programmes towards achievement of the University's strategic plan Providing strategic leadership in the development of quality standards, benchmarks, and systems monitoring and evaluation frameworks for the University Education 5.0-inspired infrastructure, equipment and facilities Oversee the construction, maintenance and/or modernization of the University's infrastructure, plant equipment and facilities, including at new industrial and business sites
Providing strategic leadership in the administration and management of University contractors, services providers and collaborating partners for the development/maintenance of infrastructure, plant equipment, facilities and
delivery of support services

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The successful candidate should be an individual combining both academic and industrial/commercial experience, preferably at Associate Professor or Full Professor level, and exhibiting high level of professional maturity, an entrepreneurial mindset, and with ability to pay attention to detail. He/she
should be a hands-on practitioner with excellent written and oral communication skills and endowed with the following attributes, among others: i. An earned PhD/DPhil Degree from a recognized University; ii. Relevant experience at University level in research and innovation and any of
the five missions of Education 5.0; iii. A track record of working in inter-disciplinary and multi-institutional team
and diverse stakeholders in academia, private sector, government and civic society; iv. Experience in management of engineering and construction projects
v. An excellent record of resource mobilization and fund-raising; vi. A proven record of competences in training, mentorship and management
of partnerships; vii. Commitment to academic excellence and innovation to address societal
problems.

POST 4: REGISTRAR
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the Registrar will be responsible for management of the University's administrative processes and support services in line with the institution's Strategic Plan, and as provided for in the University of Zimbabwe Act (Chapter 25:16). The person should have demonstrable change management competencies, communication and interpersonal skills, and commitment to the institution's high administrative demands. This is a University
Executive position and requires a competent, strategic, and focused individual with an understanding of' national Heritage-based Education 5.0 philosophy and the role of higher education institutions towards the Zimbabwe's National Vision 2030 and beyond.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Advising and assisting the Vice Chancellor, the University Council, Senate and other Committees of the University on matters of corporate governance, interpretation of University of Zimbabwe Statutes and Ordinances. Development, formulation and implementation of the University administration policies, rules and regulations at different levels in pursuit of the University's vision, mission and strategic objectives towards actualization of the heritage-based Education 5.0 philosophy.
3. Provide secretariat services to the University Council, Senate, Academic Committee and other Committees
4. Responsible for the general soundness of the University's business environment and brand image.
5. Ensuring good order and ambience of the University environment for students, staff, partners and stakeholders.
Performing any other duties and functions of the University as assigned by the Vice Chancellor.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
A holder of at least a relevant Masters Degree and/equivalent professional qualification in administration, management or any other relevant field. A PhD is a distinct advantage. ii. Experience in administration, with a significant part in a higher education
institution or related organization. iii. Relevant practical experience with information communication technologies
(ICTs) and their application in administrative and management systems.
