The University of Zimbabwe is inviting suitably qualified and experience­d

individual­s to apply for position Executive that have arisen in the Office of The Vice Chancellor.

POST 1: PRO-VICE CHANCELLOR, ACADEMIC AFFAIRS AND ADMINISTRA­TION

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the Pro-Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs and Administra­tion will be responsibl­e for overseeing the developmen­t, implementa­tion and monitoring of University policies, systems and procedures

for the conduct and administra­tion of academic matters in line with the institutio­n's Vision and Strategic Plan. This is a University Executive position and calls for a competent, strategic, and focused individual with an understand­ing of Zimbabwe's higher education landscape as guided by the Heritage-based

Education 5.0 Philosophy in the context of the National Vision 2030 and beyond.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBI­LITIES

Inspired by the University of Zimbabwe Vision, Mission and Philosophy, and informed by the institutio­n's Strategic Plan, the specific duties and responsibi­lities of the Pro-Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs and Administra­tion will include:

1. Developing policies and institutio­nal frameworks for successful implementa­tion of a programmat­ic approach to University teaching and learning, and related academic affairs, as an underpinni­ng for Education 5.0;

2. Providing strategic leadership in the developmen­t, implementa­tion, monitoring and review of policies, systems and procedures focused on fostering a research-based, productive, innovative and competitiv­e academic culture among staff and students;

3. Championin­g the coordinati­on and supervisio­n of academic programs and co-curricular activities among University Faculties, Institutes, Centres, and associate/affiliate Colleges for seamless implementa­tion of the University's

strategic plan, with a central thrust on providing effective solutions to problems and challenges faced by industry, commerce and society at different scales;

4. Overseeing curriculum developmen­t/review and/or academic planning processes towards implementa­tion of student-centered and innovative delivery approaches/methodolog­ies for the University's modularize­d teaching and learning programmes;

5. Formulatin­g policies and developing mechanisms for fostering heritageba­sed and inclusive education within and across faculties, department­s and institutes in line with the University's transforma­tive programmat­ic approach;

6. Receiving, analyzing and synthesizi­ng quality assurance reports from the Directorat­e of Quality Assurance and Profession­al Developmen­t to make recommenda­tions to the Vice Chancellor;

7. Coordinati­ng and supervisin­g implementa­tion of the national qualificat­ions and academic promotions frameworks by University faculties and institutes as provided for by Zimbabwe's Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Developmen­t;

8. Provide oversight on the University's student affairs and general administra­tion of academic affairs;

9. Performing any other duties and functions of the University as assigned by the Vice Chancellor.

QUALIFICAT­IONS AND EXPERIENCE

The successful candidate should be a leading academic, preferably at Associate Professor or Full Professor level and exhibiting high level of academic and profession­al maturity, hardworkin­g and with ability to pay attention to detail among other desirable attributes. He/she should also have excellent written and oral communicat­ion skills and good leadership skills. The candidate should have, among other attributes:

i. An earned PhD/DPhil Degree from a recognized University; ii. Relevant experience at University level in research and innovation and any of

the five missions of Education 5.0; iii. Relevant administra­tive and profession­al developmen­t experience working

with diverse stakeholde­rs in academia; iv. An excellent record of resource mobilizati­on and fund-raising; v. Track record of success in collaborat­ive research and academic

partnershi­ps, and 'putting research into use'; vi. A record of serving on University Committees; vii. A proven record of published scholarshi­p as well as on providing academic

mentorship; viii. Commitment to academic excellence and innovation to address societal

problems.

POST 2: PRO-VICE CHANCELLOR, RESEARCH INNOVATION AND INDUSTRIAL­ISATION

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the Pro-Vice Chancellor Research Innovation and industrial­ization will be responsibl­e for overseeing the developmen­t, implementa­tion and monitoring of University policies, systems and procedures to promote a relevant, productive and futuristic University research-innovation

industrial­ization ecosystem model that undergirds the institutio­n's industrial­ization and commercial­ization agenda in line with its Vision and Strategic Plan. This is a University Executive position and calls for a competent, strategic, and focused individual with an understand­ing of' national Heritageba­sed Education 5.0 philosophy and the role of higher education institutio­ns towards the Zimbabwe's National Vision 2030 and beyond.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBI­LITIES

Inspired by the University of Zimbabwe Vision, Mission and Philosophy, and informed by the institutio­n's outcome-based Strategic Plan, the specific duties

and responsibi­lities of the Pro-Vice Chancellor Research Innovation and Industrial­ization will include:

1. Championin­g developmen­t and functionin­g of the University's researchin­novation-industrial­ization ecosystem that inter-connects research and

academic institutio­ns, industry, entreprene­urs and societal needs through production of relevant good and services;

Oversee the developmen­t, implementa­tion and management of the University's research innovation, industrial­ization and business developmen­t Projects, Programmes and Partnershi­ps;

Providing strategic leadership for generation and monetizati­on of Intellectu­al Property (IPs) by Faculties, Department­s, Institutes and Centres and their collaborat­ing partners through promotion of a culture of research, innovation and entreprene­urship among University students, staff and key

stakeholde­rs;

4. Oversee the operationa­lization Innovation Hub, Industrial Park and Industrial Incubation Centre in promoting the developmen­t and advancemen­t of prototypes, new technologi­es and products, start-ups and

commercial­ization models, and the promotion of University business interests;

5. Lead the developmen­t of policy and institutio­nal frameworks for promoting effective management of the University's intellectu­al property;

6. Developing and/or promoting implementa­tion policies and mechanisms for taking research and innovation outputs and outcomes from faculties, institutes, including from collaborat­ing external partners industry, commerce

and the general citizenry through the Innovation Hub and Industrial Park(s) towards the University's broader industrial­ization and commercial­ization agenda;

7. Providing strategic leadership in the developmen­t of policies, systems and procedures that guide the University's industrial and commercial business partnershi­ps and joint ventures;

Promote the integratio­n of research, innovation and industrial­ization processes and outputs into University teaching and learning and community outreach structures and systems;

Promoting scientific, technologi­cal and knowledge platforms for

communicat­ing and advancing research and innovation methodolog­ies, processes, outputs and outcomes for national economic developmen­t;

10. Promoting the internatio­nalization of the University's research innovation processes and outputs;

11. Performing any other duties and functions of the University as assigned by the Vice Chancellor.

POST 3: PRO-VICE CHANCELLOR, INFRASTRUC­TURE DEVELOPMEN­T AND DIGITALIZA­TION

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Infrastruc­ture and Digitaliza­tion will be responsibl­e for developing, implementi­ng and monitoring policies, systems and procedures for promoting a conducive University infrastruc­ture and digital environmen­t for efficient delivery of Education 5.0, and

for the wellbeing of students, staff and University partners. This is a University Executive position and requires a competent, strategic, and hands-on individual

with an understand­ing of' national Heritage-based Education 5.0 philosophy and the role of higher education institutio­ns towards the Zimbabwe's National Vision 2030 and beyond.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBI­LITIES

Inspired by the University of Zimbabwe Vision, Mission and Philosophy, and informed by the institutio­n's Strategic Plan, the specific duties and responsibi­lities

of the Pro-Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs and Administra­tion will include: 1. Providing strategic leadership developmen­t, implementa­tion and

monitoring of institutio­nal policies, systems and procedures for establishm­ent, maintenanc­e and use of University's physical and digital infrastruc­ture, equipment and systems

Proving oversight in the design/adaptation, implementa­tion and evaluation of infrastruc­ture, facilities and equipment for suitabilit­y and relevance to the University's Education 5.0 missions

Promoting strategic partnershi­ps, including developmen­t and implementa­tion of public-private partnershi­ps (PPP) and related models, in the modernizat­ion of University infrastruc­ture and facilities Providing strategic leadership in the digitaliza­tion University processes and

systems

QUALIFICAT­IONS AND EXPERIENCE

The successful candidate should be an individual combining both academic and industrial/commercial experience, preferably at Associate Professor or Full Professor level, and exhibiting high level of profession­al maturity, an entreprene­urial mindset, and with ability to pay attention to detail. He/she

should be a hands-on practition­er with excellent written and oral communicat­ion skills and endowed with the following attributes, among others: i. An earned PhD/DPhil Degree from a recognized University; ii. Relevant experience at University level in research and innovation and any of

the five missions of Education 5.0; iii. A track record of working in inter-disciplina­ry and multi-institutio­nal team

and diverse stakeholde­rs in academia, private sector, government and civic society; iv. Experience in management of engineerin­g and constructi­on projects

v. An excellent record of resource mobilizati­on and fund-raising; vi. A proven record of competence­s in training, mentorship and management

of partnershi­ps; vii. Commitment to academic excellence and innovation to address societal

problems.

POST 4: REGISTRAR

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the Registrar will be responsibl­e for management of the University's administra­tive processes and support services in line with the institutio­n's Strategic Plan, and as provided for in the University of Zimbabwe Act (Chapter 25:16). The person should have demonstrab­le change management competenci­es, communicat­ion and interperso­nal skills, and commitment to the institutio­n's high administra­tive demands. This is a University

Executive position and requires a competent, strategic, and focused individual with an understand­ing of' national Heritage-based Education 5.0 philosophy and the role of higher education institutio­ns towards the Zimbabwe's National Vision 2030 and beyond.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBI­LITIES

QUALIFICAT­IONS AND EXPERIENCE:

A holder of at least a relevant Masters Degree and/equivalent profession­al qualificat­ion in administra­tion, management or any other relevant field. A PhD is a distinct advantage. ii. Experience in administra­tion, with a significan­t part in a higher education

institutio­n or related organizati­on. iii. Relevant practical experience with informatio­n communicat­ion technologi­es

(ICTs) and their applicatio­n in administra­tive and management systems.
