Icaz flies the chartered accountant flag

THE longest serving Institute of Chartered Accountant­s of Zimbabwe (Icaz) is a statutory body incorporat­ed under the Chartered Accountant­s Act (Chapter 27:02) formed in 1918.

With a vision to be the pre-eminent profession­al body in the developmen­t and promotion of accountanc­y, assurance and advisory services, business and good governance practices, Icaz has been flying the flag high. Its mission is to enhance the internatio­nal standing and recognitio­n of the qualificat­ion Chartered Accountant (Zimbabwe), for the benefit of its members and to support such members in providing quality services in the public interest.

About Icaz

Icaz is the largest and oldest profession­al accountanc­y organizati­on (PAO) in Zimbabwe.

Icaz contribute­s to the majority of members registered by the Public Accountant­s and Auditors Board (PAAB).

e Icaz council is the governing body led by a president who is elected into office annually.

e council works through various committees such as:

Accounting Procedures Committee (APC) Auditing and Profession­al Standards Committee (APSC)

Continuing Profession­al Developmen­t Committee (CPD)

+/- 18 other committees

Icaz has three membership categories:

Articled Accountant membership AA(Z) category is applicable to:

Students who completed and had their articles discharged

Students who completed articles but their articles were not discharged

Students who have not passed the final qualifying examinatio­ns but completed their articles

Chartered Accountant CA(Z) category is applicable to those who:

Satisfy the Institute’s requiremen­ts regarding practical experience during training,

Have served under a training contract with an Accredited Training Office (ATO),

Have passed the Institute’s qualifying examinatio­ns (i.e. CTA, ITC and APC) and

• Have applied and been admitted to the Institute as a member.

Fellow Chartered Accountant FCA(Z) Category applies to:

ose who have been members of the Institute for at least 10 years and are in good standing and with a clean disciplina­ry record. (Members need to apply and gain admission into this category)

The role of Icaz

Develops CAs and administer­s students training records at any time and supervises accredited training offices (ATO).

Monitors and regulates the conduct of its members.

Maintains a register of members who are in public practice.

Provides thought leadership engagement on economic and business matters.

Leads on accounting technical Issues. Administer­s, conducts and controls the Icaz examinatio­n structure through the exam board.

e institute provides continuous profession­al developmen­t seminars to its members.

Organises business events and conference­s for the benefit of members and the public.

Provides career guidance to prospectiv­e students

Who is a CA(Z)

In Zimbabwe, a CA is a member of the institute of Chartered Accountant of Zimbabwe.

Most members of the institute hold influentia­l positions in the economy.

Internatio­nal affiliatio­n

Icaz is a member of the Pan African Federation of Accountant­s (Pafa) and the only Zimbabwe PAO which is a member of the Internatio­nal Federation of Accountant­s (IFAC) and is also an associate member of the Chartered Accountant­s Worldwide (CAW). e institute enjoys reciprocal arrangemen­ts with a number of chartered accountant­s institutio­ns such as SAICA in South Africa, England and Wales, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, Hong Kong, and Ireland.

ese arrangemen­ts benefit our members in that, among other things, those that are in the respective jurisdicti­ons can access various membership services offered by the reciprocal institute and also gain formal recognitio­n of their profession­al status in the same areas.

ese agreements generally also allow Icaz to cooperate better with the respective bodies in terms of strategic initiative­s and other areas of mutual interest.

Icaz chapters

Icaz chapters are a grouping of Icaz members in the same area of residence allowing them to come together and share ideas as well as networking.
