Becoming a CA(Z)

In order to become a CA in Zimbabwe one must:

Satisfy the institute’s requirements regarding practical experience during training,

Serve under a training contract with an Accredited Training Office (ATO ),

Pass the Institute’s Qualifying Examinations (i.e. CTA , ITC and AP C) and

Apply to the institute for admission as a member.

Certificate in Theory of Accounting

Students with accounting degrees sit for a 10 module full year bridging course if it is the Unisa route and after passing embark onto CTA Level 2.

This is a process the student will have to conduct on their own. Icaz is no longer taking new students under this arrangement.

Through the Chartered Accountants Academy (CAA), students can do a one year full time or 2 years part time of the CTA programme.

The National University of Science and Technology (Nust) is also a service provider for CTA and their requirements are available from Nust

Articles

The probationary period for a student accountant (articles) is 15 months which can be terminated on one-month notice from either side.

This long probationary period allows a student to decide whether being a Chartered Accountant is (or is not) the career for the student.

On completion of the probationary period, the training contract becomes binding on both sides until completion

The training contract for students with accounting degrees is 3 years.

A degreed student can complete the first bridging course in the first year, the Zimbabwe Certificate in Theory of Accounting (CTA ) in the following year and qualifying examinations in the third year.

Training to be a chartered accountant requires hard work and dedication.

While training, a student will be working on a full – time job and will be expected to perform at a professional level.

Students are expected to equally balance the two challenging tasks.

On completion, a student will be a drilled accounting professional

Influence of Icaz members in Zim

As Icaz we have the important mandate of representing, promoting and enhancing the accountancy profession. At the national level, we are the voice for the nation’s CA; this includes all professional accountants both in practice and in business. As a result of their different roles in the society, the overall status of the accountancy profession can only be strengthened when both professional accountants in practice and in business are well-perceived by society.
