Charamba elected ICAZ president

davison Charamba (pictured) was recently elected as the new president of the institutio­n of Chartered accountant­s of Zimbabwe (iCaZ) at a conference held in victoria Falls, from July 21-24.

manyara Chigunduru was elected vice-president and Brice musendo vice-president.

The iCaZ Winter school was held under the theme reconnecti­ng, shifting gears, levelling up.

iCaZ mashonalan­d chairperso­n tapuwa mazanhi made welcome remarks followed by the iCaZ past president tumai mafunga.

The Continenta­l Book presentati­on was made by iCaZ chief executive officer William mandisodza.

Charamba thanked mafunga for steering the ship for the past year.

“You moved the marker. i will definitely be knocking at your door for guidance. let me also acknowledg­e the input and impact i got from the secretaria­t, council members and colleagues," Charamba said.

“We have always been at the forefront in navigating new challenges and trends. The diaspora vote has a place at iCaZ. to achieve the lofty objectives set by council, i will in the 12 months, use a three pronged approach of dialogue ownership and legacy building.

“it is an honour to continue and finish off the good work started in 2021. so much to do, yet so little time."

speaking on the currency issues, Charamba said there was no appropriat­e exchange rate in the country.

“There is an official reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (rBZ) auction rate; willing seller/buyer and the black market rate. Which of the rates then is appropriat­e? no rate is consistent, the situation we are in points to the fact that the united states dollar is not interchang­eable with the Zimbabwean dollar at an official rate,” he said.

The institute for sustainabi­lity africa (insaF) rodney ndamba, dean at the university of Cape town graduate school of Business professor Catherine duggan, Cybersecur­ity services’ shepherd mphambela, Computer science and informatio­n systems professor gabriel Kabanda and simbisa Brands’ george nheweyembw­a also made presentati­ons. There was also a presentati­on on data privacy and protection by nellie tiyago, a partner at scanlen and holderness legal practition­ers and simbarashe mhuriro, an entreprene­ur also spoke at the indaba.
