On behalf of Old Mutual Zimbabwe, we are delighted and privileged to be part of yet another prestigious DOYA hosted by the Institute of Directors Zimbabwe (IoDZ).
As we celebrate directional excellence this evening, we recognise the impact that directors make in steering their businesses with not only a strategic, but also sustainable and responsible frame of mind. It is true no great business organisation can thrive without sound corporate governance which this institute champions.
It also goes without saying that to achieve this level of sustainable growth, we need leaders who are committed to the triple bottom line of social, environmental and financial benefits.
is calls for all directors to shift their perspectives and strategic direction. And I am honoured to rub shoulders and exchange networks with such visionaries present here today, both winners and nominees.
For over 120 years, sustainable leadership has been at the core of Old Mutual’s corporate values. We uphold a five-pillar framework of responsible business which underpins sustainability and the concept of a triple bottom line of profit (responsible investment), people (employees, communities), and the planet (environment) to ensure that the impact we are making is always positive. We are always aware of the impact we have on the lives of our customers, families, communities, and the environment.
is ensures that every action and decision we take is authentic and delivers shared value.
Old Mutual is increasingly diversifying into alternative investments such as sustainable energy and other eco-friendly initiatives adding value and improving the wellbeing of people and communities we work with.
e Old Mutual’s green journey started in 2021 with the launch of Solgas Cross Mabele with over 15 600 solar panels. Other projects that followed include the Old Mutual Gardens solar plant, the Kupinga Hydro Power Station, Gwanda Solar Farm and Nyabira.
As we continue on this journey to uphold our role in engaging meaningful and sustainable development across communities around Zimbabwe, Old Mutual urges all directors in attendance to play their part with the much-needed resilience in their respective areas of influence.
We look forward to mutually beneficial engagements as we go into the future, and as we say at Old Mutual — let’s do great things every day.
