Serena teases sensational return

-

SERENA Williams hinted she may follow in NFL superstar Tom Brady's footsteps as she she teased a possible return from retirement.

It is expected that the US open would be the 23-time Grand Slam champion's final tournament after she announced she was 'evolving away' from tennis last month.

e 40-year-old appeared to bring the curtain down on an illustrious career in Flushing Meadows as she met her final match in World No. 46 Ajla Tomljanovic, falling to defeat against the Australian in a three-set thriller 7-5 6-7 6-1 during the third round of the US Open.

However, the American star suggested she could copy Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Brady, who briefly retired during the NFL offseason earlier this year before making a U-turn on the decision.

Speaking on Good Morning America, Williams discussed a possible return to tennis, saying: 'I mean, you never know.

'I've just been saying that I think Tom Brady started a really cool trend.'

Williams also dropped the hint on the Jimmy Fallon show. When questioned on the subject of copying Brady, she said: 'Tom Brady started an amazing trend. at's what I want to say.'

She also revealed that she does not intend for retirement to be a relaxing period but rather an 'evolution of Serena'.

'I think retirement is something that is super earned and that people work really hard for,' she added.

'I just feel like that I'm at an age where I definitely have a lot more to give and there's a lot more I want to do, so I'm not going to be relaxing. ere's so much more for me. I feel it's more of an evolution of Serena.

' ere's so many things that I've been wanting to do for so many years and I have had such a passion for tennis for so long that I've never done it. But now it's time for me to start to enjoy those things.'

Williams also appeared to leave the door slightly ajar in her on-court interview following defeat to Tomljanovic. Asked if that was the end she replied: 'I think so, you never know,' before leaving the court promptly.

In her interview with Good Morning America Wednesday, Williams also revealed that her older sister Venus was among those trying to persuade her to postpone retirement.

'She's not done yet,' Serena said when asked about her older sister. ' is is just me. She's trying to get me, and I'm like, 'No.''

Brady, 45, was one of the biggest storylines of the NFL offseason when he retired and the unretired just six weeks later to return for another season with the Bucs.

He was back under center for a 23rd season in the NFL and led the Buccaneers to a 19-3 Week 1 win over the Dallas Cowboys.

However, his future in the NFL has continued to dominate headlines despite the new season getting underway.

Speaking to Jim Gray on his weekly podcast, Let's Go!, Brady conveyed the Bucs' opener made him think about his football future. — Daily Mail.
