After teasing the song, Rihanna made an appearance at the world premiere of the film with her rapper boyfriend ASAP Rocky, with whom she welcomed her first child earlier this year.

Film director Ryan Coogler said the singer’s involvement in the project was in honour of the late star Chadwick Boseman.

“Honestly, I think it was Chad,” he said. “A lot of improbable things needed to happen for it to come through and Rihanna was very clear that she did that for him.”

In the clip for the song, rising music can be heard along with the Barbadian singer’s distinctive hum as an “R” shines into view flanked by her name and the song title written in Wakandan, the language spoken in the comic book universe. e track is set to be released today, two weeks before the film’s theatrical release on November 11.

release marks the start of Rihanna’s big return to the music industry, which will culminate in her headlining the Superbowl LVII Halftime Show in February.

Nigerian singer songwriter Tems — who wrote the song with Rihanna, Swedish composer Ludwig Goransson and Coogler — said hearing Rihanna sing the track was a “great honour”.
