The Women in news editorial leadership award is a career achievemen­t award that recognises an exemplary contributi­on of an editor to her newsroom — and under her leadership the contributi­on of her newspaper — to society.

The Women in news editorial leadership award is awarded to three outstandin­g women editors, representi­ng africa, the arab region and southeast asia, who are first amongst their peers in inspiring and paving the way forward for the next generation of leaders. The laureates are selected by members of the Women in news global steering committee based on criteria such as commitment to editorial excellence, gender equality and supporting the next generation of media leaders.

Zaba’s nomination came from a thorough process where judging was done at various levels in a process that was highly competitiv­e. she was also noted for being at the forefront in pushing the gender agenda and speaking out against sexual harassment. she has been strong in calling out on cases where there is injustice against female journalist­s.
