World Change Organisation creates safe space for girls

-

Our main thrust is on care giving, women empowerment and advocacy. World Change Organisation WOCO has been actively creating safe spaces for young women in rural areas of Zimbabwe.

As a young man, who spent most of his childhood in a small farming village of Kwayedza, I saw the plight young women face when it comes to sanitary wear, education and being awarded a fair shot at life.

Memories of having to see young girls using cow dung, rags and banana leaves as sanitary wear motivated me.

Looking back, as a young boy in a small village herding my grandfather's cattle, I had huge hopes for a better future, a dream that would not only serve me but so many others like me.

I made a promise to myself then that if I am to be blessed with just but a few, I would share and become the bigger brother I needed at that point.

To date, we have made successful partnerships with Chitaitai Chemicals, Farenorth Investments, Tafira family, and together, we have made notable strides.

On one of our trips to Kwayedza we noted with great concern that most of the students walk 10 to 15km to and from school without shoes.

We aim to provide school shoes so as to encourage young people to stay in school.

During winter and the rainy season, the cold weather will be unbearable thus sweeping dry motivation for the children to want to wake up in the morning and go to school.

We are also working on community building projects such egg production, recycling as a way to curb climate change and also to fund raise in order for us to meet our objectives.

We hope for a society that compassion, kindness, gender innovative and honesty.

Furthermore, we have donated more than 3 000 packets pads and educatis full of sensitive, ing young women on menstrual hygiene through radio, newspapers, magazines, tv and social media campaigns.

In July, we travelled to Samahuru in

Tsholotsho where we donated more than 1 000 packets of pads, detergents and education materials on menstrual hygiene. The impact made is huge as we assisted some young women who would have had to travel 80 kilometres to access sanitary wear, detergents and more so education on menstrual hygiene.

The ultimate goal is to exercise random acts of kindness.
