ZIM awards a benchmark of excellence
THE Zimbabwe Institute of Management (ZIM) held the 2023 Excellence in Leadership and Management Awards on the 1st of December 2023 at the Holiday Inn in Harare.
ese Excellence in Leadership and Management Awards are a key initiative by the Institute to endorse superior leadership and management practices at senior and executive levels. ese awards have consistently set a benchmark for excellence in leadership and management reflected by the criteria employed to recognise achievement which has remained steadfast in identifying, acknowledging, and rewarding exceptional performers in both the public and corporate sectors throughout the years.
e awards reflect ZIM’S ongoing commitment to promoting and celebrating outstanding achievements in the realms of leadership and management.
e Institute is a professional training organisation founded in 1957 whose mandate is to develop and promote best practices in management and leadership through quality, market-driven programs and activities in the region and beyond. e Institute is membership-based and prides in its diversity encompassing individuals, corporate entities and students.
e Institute is the oldest leadership and management Institution in Zimbabwe with over 66 years of nurturing business leaders and managers and the head office is in Harare and a regional office in Bulawayo.
e theme for the 2023 ZIM Excellence in Leadership and Management Awards was "Time to Evolve: Forging Sustainable Organisational Processes through Practical and Game-changing Solutions”. e event celebrated outstanding achievements by individuals and organisations across various sectors of the Zimbabwean economy.
e guest of honor at the event was the esteemed, Mr. John Dube, who is a fellow member of the Institute and the Master of Ceremony was the energetic Mr. Trynos Dongo. Generous sponsorship for the event came from PG Zimbabwe and media coverage was provided by the Daily News, the Zimbabwe Independent and the Financial Gazette.
Dr. Remigio Chingara, the president of the institute, highlighted the importance of recognising excellence in leadership and management in his opening remarks and also commended the nominees for their outstanding contributions.
Mr. John Reward Chakanyuka, the senior vice president of the institute, expressed gratitude to all participants, sponsors, and partners, emphasising the Institute's commitment to promoting continuous improvement and excellence in leadership and management practices.
Mr. Ken Sharpe from Westprop Holdings won the Business Man of the Year Award as recognition for his exceptional leadership and strategic acumen in the business world.
Mr. Innocent Taru of PG Zimbabwe was the runner-up in the Business Man of the Year category for his notable accomplishments.
Dr. Ethel Chiwara-mupambwa of Moneymart Finance emerged as the Business Woman of the Year, showcasing remarkable leadership, innovation, and dedication in her field. e runner-up for the Business Woman of the Year category was Ms. Alice Tagwira of Zheera Trust.
e Young Leader of the Year award celebrated the achievements of winner Dr. Geraldine Zikwature while Mrs. Tendai Joana Tazvivinga from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development was the first runner-up. Mr. Lincoln Masiyenyama of Nakiso Borehole Drilling and Mr. Lewis Tembo were acknowledged as tied for the second runners-up slot.
Moneymart Finance stood out as the winner in the Small to Medium Enterprises category, followed by Packer Services Travel and Tours as the first runner-up.
Sixspeed Tech. Systems and Moushtec Steel and Fireplace were tied for the second runner-up slot. e Customer Service Excellence was epitomised by PG Centre who were the winners in the category followed by Tram Graphics and Praise Faith ECD Centre who were recognised as first and second runners-up, respectively.
Westprop Holdings Limited secured the top position in Private Sector Excellence, with Winds Corporate Services recognised as the first runner-up.
