- DC CORRESPONDENT

The police have booked a case against Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) director Dr Jai Singh based on a complaint with regard to an attack on some students on Wednesday night.

RIMS students continued their protest for the second day on Friday, demanding that the state government suspend director Dr Singh. They alleged that he had a role in an attack on students on Wednesday midnight, which left six of them injured.

The students complained to the Two Town police stating that D. Kranti Kiran of RIMS and his friends Wasim and Shiva, who are outsiders, had attacked them over a petty issue. Police booked cases against Dr Kiran and his associates Wasim and Shiva, besides the director.

On the instruction of the Directorate of Medical Education, a team of Prof. Shiva Prasad and Prof. V.V. Rao from Nizamabad Medical College conducted an inquiry into the incident and the allegations levelled against the director some assistant professor by the students. The team would submit their report to the DME. The students questioned how could the two-man committee conduct an impartial inquiry into the incident while having the accused standing beside them. They also alleged that the director was influencing the inquiry.

The protesting students raised slogans against the director and sought his suspension. Girl students said there was no proper security for the students on the campus.

The students claimed that they had proof of the involvement of the director in the attack and demanded that the committee take cognizance of it.
