Woman mowed down at BH

A 35-year-old woman died after being run over by an unidentifi­ed vehicle near an eye hospital in Banjara Hills around 6.30 am on Sunday.

The woman, J. Chandrakal­a, worked as a security at a star hotel in the area and was on her way to work when the incident took place, the police said. She is survived by two kids aged below 15 years, who have been orphaned, as her husband died a few years ago.

“Chandrika was crossing the road when the vehicle going towards Punjagutta hit her. A case has been registered against the vehicle and a hunt is on to trace the vehicle and nab the driver,” said Banjara Hills sub-inspector N. Preethi Reddy.

Chandrakal­a, a resident of Vanasthali­puram, had been working at the hotel for the past few years on the morning shift. On Sunday too, she got down at the bus stop as usual and was crossing the road when she was hit.

Sources said the CCTV camera footage accessed showed around four vehicles passing the spot at the time of the incident — two private buses, a TSRTC bus and a goods vehicle.

The pictures were not clear due to reportedly due to the foggy weather. Police said the CC footage was being sent to the IT team to develop useable images.
