Help fight corruption, Go urges public

- BY BERNADETTE E. TAMAYO

SEN. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” GO CALLED ON THE PUBLIC TO HELP fiGHT irregularities in the government even as he declared the campaign against corruption improved during the Duterte administration.

The senator reiterated his appeal to the public to report anomalies in government to authorities.

Go maintained President Rodrigo Duterte is determined to eradicate corruption in the government.

“It continues from day 1 [of his OFfiCE] UNTIL THE END OF HIS TERM. I don’t believe that it worsened,” he said in Filipino.

“Naniniwala po ako na mayroong improvement (I believe that there has been an improvement on the campaign against graft and corruption),” he said.

Go added the President was telling the truth when he said that Duterte “did not meddle in the government transactions.”

Sen. Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao recently filed a resolution calling for a Senate inquiry into the alleged inability of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to distribute P10.4 billion in Social Amelioration Program (SAP) funds.

The DSWD denied that some SAP funds were missing.

Go urged Filipinos to report any instance of government corruption to proper agencies. He said he was WILLING TO LISTEN IN CONfiDENCE AND pursue appropriate actions to hold accountable those at fault.

“You cannot easily totally eradicate CORRUPTION IN [THE] Government. Napakahirap po (It’s very Difficult),” HE SAID.

He added that the Truth and Justice Coalition was founded in October 2018 as a result of his initiative, as well as that of the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission, to assist the Government IN Fighting CORRUPTION BY CONDUCTING Fact-finding INQUIRIES, lifestyle checks and other investigations.

It collaborates with lawyers, RETIRED PUBLIC Officials, RELIGIOUS leaders, the private sector and other government institutions to create platforms for citizens to report corruption and reward those who do so.

Go said he welcomes any investigation into alleged anomalies. He stressed that instead of throwing baseless criticisms, critics should help fellow Filipinos in need while CONTRIBUTING IN THE Fight AGAINST corruption.
