Armstrong takes control of conference

Caden Olsen completed 18 of 22 passes for 447 yards and five touchdowns as Armstrong took over sole possession of first place in the Greater Allegheny Conference with a 56-35 victory against host Highlands in a shootout.

Armstrong improved its record to 5-0 in the conference and 8-1 overall. It was the first loss for Highlands (8-1, 4-1), which came into the game ranked No. 5 in WPIAL Class 4A.

Olsen took turns throwing the ball to Isaiah Brown, Ian Olsen and Kyan Kline. Brown caught 7 passes for 166 yards and 3 touchdowns. Ian Olsen caught five passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns.

Kline had five catches for 129 yards.

Caden Olsen leads the WPIAL with 2,492 yards and 33 touchdowns.

He has completed 149 of 229 passes for a 65.1 completion percentage.

Thomas Jefferson 58, Connellsvi­lle 0: Sean Sullivan and Aidan Whalen each scored two touchdowns as the Jaguars (6-3, 4-1) dominated the Falcons in the Big Seven Conference. Sullivan caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Brody Evans in the second quarter, then returned a kickoff 97 yards in the third. Evans also connected with Jordan Mayer on a 10-yard scoring pass. Whalen scored twice on 1yard runs. The Jaguars also scored on a 55-yard run by Elias Lippincott, a 14-yard run John Janusek, and a 32yard run by Bryce Heller.

McKeesport 54, Latrobe 14: Bobby Boyd rushed for 182 yards on 15 carries and scored on runs of 44 and 7 yards as the No. 2 ranked Tigers (9-0, 5-0) remained unbeaten with a blowout of the Wildcats (5-4, 3-3) in the Big Seven Conference. Larry Gibson also scored twice for the Tigers on runs of 7 and 27 yards. Jahmil Perryman accounted for two more touchdowns with a 21-yard scamper and a 29-yard scoring pass to DaMier Clark.

Hampton 49, Mars 42: Joey Mayer completed 12 of 24 passes for 335 yards and four touchdowns as the Talbots (5-5, 3-2) outlasted the host Planets (5-4, 2-3) in the Greater Allegheny Conference. Mayer connected with Benny Haselrig on scoring strikes of 37, 36, and 73 yards and with Eric Weeks on a 59yard scoring pass. Mayer also scored the deciding touchdown on a 26-yard run with 1:15 left in the game.

Montour 27, Blackhawk 7: Jake Wolfe threw four touchdown passes, including three to Daniel Batch, to lead the Spartans (5-4, 4-2) to a Parkway Conference win against the visiting Cougars (3-6, 2-4). Wolfe completed 17 of 28 passes for 229 yards and connected with Batch on scoring passes of 31, 74, and 25 yards. He also found Andrew Alston on a 25-yard scoring strike. Batch caught six passes for 157 yards.

Kiski Area 50, Fox Chapel 13: Dominic Dininno scored five touchdowns to lead the Cavaliers (1-8) to their first win of the season with this non-conference home win against the winless Foxes (0-9). Dininno and quarterbac­k Carson Heinle connected on scoring passes of 30, 26, 28, and 34 yards. Dininno also scored 65-yard intercepti­on return.

In Class 3A:

North Catholic 41, Indiana 0: The Trojans (5-4, 3-2) scored two defensive touchdowns in their road shutout of the Little Indians (3-6, 1-5) in the Greater Allegheny Conference. Danny Franco opened the scoring with a 25yard intercepti­on return. Julian King capped the scoring with a 25-yard return of a fumble. Jack Fennell scored twice for the Trojans on a 3yard run and with a 40-yard scoring pass from Jason Sikut.

Belle Vernon 48, Southmorel­and 0: Jake Gedokoh and Quinton Martin combined to rush for 211 yards and three touchdowns to lead the top-ranked Leopards (6-2, 4-0) to a shutout of the Scotties (4-5, 2-2) in the Interstate Conference. Gedekoh rushed for 111 yards on eight carries and scored on runs of 22 and 10 yards.

Elizabeth Forward 62, Greensburg Salem 13: Zion White connected with Zach Boyd on touchdown passes of 34, 69, and 46 yards as the No. 2 ranked Warriors (9-0, 4-0) remained unbeaten with a convincing win against the host Golden Lions (3-6, 0-4). White completed 9 of 11 passes for 255 yards. Boyd had six catches for 233 yards.

Avonworth 58, Seton LaSalle 7: Nate Harper threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as the No. 3 Antelopes (8-1, 5-0) dominated the visiting Rebels (0-9, 0-6) in the Western Hills Conference.
