TROY - David Wyeth Hoffman, PHD, 87, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 12, 2023. Born June 22, 1936 in Cincinnati, Ohio to David Byron and Lucy Snow (nee Wyeth) Hoffman. David was accepted into The Ohio State University engineerin­g school in 1954, where he earned a combinatio­n Bachelors and Masters Degree in Science. David married Mariann Walton on August 1, 1959, at First Community Church in Marble Cliff, Ohio. He went on to study at Massachuse­tts Institute of Technology focusing on metallurgy and graduating with his PHD in 1967. David began his career with Ford Motor Company shortly thereafter, working at the Ford Research Laboratory in Dearborn, Michigan until retirement in 1985. He held numerous patents for the company and served as the President of the American Vacuum Society, an affiliate of the American Institute of Physics. In his retirement, he studied music compositio­n, played piano, sang in numerous groups, sailed, skiied, travelled the world, and lived his life to the fullest. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. David is survived by his loving sons, Wesley Walton and David Robert Hoffman; dear brother Richard (Judy) Hoffman PHD; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, former spouse Mariann, and brother Stephen Vincent Hoffman DDS. A funeral service and committal will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 11am at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 275 N. Cedar St., Newark OH, 43055.
