Two murdered in Midlands Province

POLICE in the Midlands Province are investigat­ing two murder cases that occurred over the weekend in Shurugwi and Zhombe.

According to a statement made by ZRP Midlands Police Spokespers­on Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, Dingilizwe Dzingai (41) died at Shurugwi Hospital on Sunday after fighting over a cellphone which he won through gambling on Saturday.

“Dingilizwe Dzingai aged 41 won a cellphone while gambling and the suspect Ison Chibaya, who happens to be the owner of the cellphone later followed Dingilizwe to his home to recover his cellphone.

“The two fought and Chibaya struck Dingilizwe with an axe on the head and Dingilizwe was taken to Shurugwi Hospital for treatment where he died on November 28,” read the statement.

In a separate case, a 23-yearold artisanal miner was reportedly murdered after two rival groups fought at Gravel West Mine in Kwekwe.

“Two rival groups of artisanal miners fought at Gravel West Mine, Kwekwe.

“The now deceased, Henry Mlilo’s gang went away and Henry then returned on a revenge mission, accompanie­d by a friend identified as Stephene Chaka armed with an axe, spear and a machete.

“They were outnumbere­d by the other group which numbered up to 15 people.

“The two tried to run away while the rivals kept on assaulting them until Henry Milto fell and drowned in Sebakwe River.

“The body was retrieved by the police during scene attendance with injuries all over the body,” read the statement.

However, police are yet to make any arrests as investigat­ions are underway.
